Vera couldn’t stifle the laugh the surges through her. Even though it caused her entire body to ignite in pain. She had always had the most rotten luck. Now instead of dying from an injury, she was going to be eaten alive by whatever created hung above her in the cavern.
“Hello knight, come to slay the great dragon have you?”
“So you’re a dragon? Well, that answers my question. So if you don’t mind, I’m just going to be on my way.”
Vera tried to stand up, but her body was too weak. She laughed miserably at her misfortune.
“Are you not going to run?”
“Unfortunately not. I think I am stuck here. I apologize for bleeding all over your floor. If I had known something lived here I would have been more considerate. I know how pesky drop-by visitors can be.”
Her eyes were slowly adjusting to the dim lightning. She could see just enough to appreciate size of the dragon above her. And every so often it would shift just enough for the fire to reflect off its inky black scales.
“Human…………”
The low growl started again but she couldn’t hear him anymore. Everything around her was fuzzy all shifting into the same monochromatic blur until her eyelids finally couldn’t possibly stay open any longer and closed as her body crumbled the rest of the way to the floor.
