Finally, dawn was approaching as I sat back in the plane seat. I never enjoyed flying, but it was the best way to cover my scent. Luna and I had come to an agreement to leave for Korea. The further away, the better. We were both excited to see someone there. Someone I haven’t stopped thinking of since I met him briefly after ending things with Marvin. I shook my head. Chances of seeing him here were slim to none. I quickly pushed the thought out of my head.
I took the time to go over the language again and refresh my memory. I never was fluent but maybe now that I’m moving there, I will be. I had called my buddy as well; he was already uploading my new identification. My new name was Lauren McCaul, I was born in 1995 in Syracuse New York to a dairy farmer. I moved to Korea for a change of view and to continue my education on the Korean language and work as a nurse. This was yet another version of me. Maybe in my next life I will reuse my last identity again with some adjustments.
I smiled; glad I got the window seat. I watched the sun rise from thousands of feet in the air. It was beautiful. It was going to be a long flight; I may as well sleep now. I closed my eyes and nodded off.
“…please buckle your seat belts as we will be landing shortly.” I opened my eyes to the buckle light flashing. I groggily buckled up and leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes. I heard a woman say something but ignored it. She repeated once more so I opened my eyes and locked eyes with a young Korean woman. She was in a dark blue flight attendant dress and wore white gloves. Her hair was perfectly pulled back into a bun. I had forgotten how precise they were on their uniform. I smiled.
“Yes?” I asked in Korean. She wanted to ensure I was alright since I had slept the whole flight.
“Ah, yes. Thank you. Tired.” My Korean was broken but it was enough to get the point across. She nodded and moved on. I sighed in relief. I was very happy that the flight was fairly empty. I was able to have the whole row to myself. I stretched in my chair and felt the soreness of yesterdays activities. I looked back out the window and wondered what time it was. I reached into my pocket and grabbed my phone. I was happy I had grabbed it before turning my bag in. I let it power up as we landed. The flight was about 15 hours long. I sighed and unbuckled. The worst part of flying was getting off. I just sat there and waited for everyone to leave and then hoped up as the last few were leaving the plane. I grabbed my stuff and quickly exited. I bowed to the flight attendants and headed off.
I drew my phone from my pocket and speed dialed my man.
“What is up Lauren?” He snickered at my new name. I rolled my eyes. I hated it. But it would do.
“Location?” I heard him typing away on his keyboard.
“Step out of Icheon Airport and there’s a friend waiting for you.”
“How will I know who this friend is?”
“Oh. You’ll know.” And he hung up. I sighed and adjusted my bag on my back. I had never been to Korea before. I was surprised as how much nicer things were here. No trash cans were over filled, and everyone was respectful. I could get use to this. As I exited the airport I looked around. I saw many faces, half covered with masks. As I glanced, I saw a head bob up and down. His hair bouncing with him. I squinted and rolled my eyes. He started waving his hands. Yes, I would definitely know who this friend was.
“Hey Mo-Mo!” I though my arms around the built Korean man. He had a baby face but the body of a body builder. He squeezed me tightly.
“I have missed you so much!” his accent was thick yet attractive, his smile was wide and made my heart flutter. I had always had a crush on Mo-Mo. He was very kind and gentle despite his looks. He would scare people away due to his looks. Girls secretly would crush on him but be scared at the same time.
“Where’s the girlfriend?” I asked looking around. He blushed.
“I don’t have one.”
“Whaaaaaaaat?” I smiled and punched his arm. “A catch like you is still single?” He chuckled and grabbed my bag.
“What level are we at?” He asked as he tossed my bag in the trunk.
“10.” I sighed. “At least I think it’s a ten.” His eyes widened.
“Who?” His voice dropped. I shrugged. I opened the door, paused and walked around. I heard him laugh as my face went warm. I had forgotten everything is backwards here. I quickly buckled in and as soon as we were driving I explained to him what had happened.
“Whoa!” He gave me a quick glance. “Bad! Ass! You jumped out of a moving car and still look good!” I blushed and looked away. How was it that he had this effect on me? Suddenly a warm hand was on top of mine. I looked up, surprised. His ears were red as he was biting his lower lip. Seeing him bite his that thick bottom lip of his made my mind wonder to places it shouldn’t. I could see him holding back a smile as he avoided making eye contact with me.
“I like you.” I blurted out. “I thought I should say that just in case anything happened to me.” His face dropped as did my heart. I was about to be turned down. We parked in a parking lot and he turned to look at me. He bit his lip and turned away. Rejected. I nodded.
“Its okay. I just wanted to get it out there.” He paused as he opened the door. I unbuckled about to get out when he closed the door. I looked up, wondering what he was doing. He turned to me and grabbed my face between his hands and our lips were about to meet met....
