In the hospital room, Hazel leaned weakly against the pillows. Just thinking about how desperately Beatriz had tried to kill her made a wave of genuine fear wash over her. Her neck had already been bandaged and wrapped tightly in gauze. Because her vocal cords had been bruised, every single word she spoke hurt like hell, leaving her voice raspy and hoarse.
