Prologue

I was in my house with my brother and sister when something terrible happened. Thunder crashed down and everything became dark aside from flashes of light. “Annabelle!” My little brother and sister cried out. I ran up the stairs to see my brother cuddled up to my little sister sitting on the bed. I walk over to the closet in their room and pull out a big bag. “Something horrible has happened to our parents and they’re not coming back. We need to pack up some stuff to take with us and leave this place at once,” I told them as I began placing clothes into the bag. “What happened to them?” Molly asked as she looked over at me like she was ready to cry. I continued what I was doing desperate to get us out of here. I didn’t know what was coming but I felt a doom looming over us. I wasn’t going to take any chances. I shoved some more clothes into the bag then looked over at her and said, “Someone killed them.” Julian looked over at me in shock and said, “That can’t be true. How do you know that?” Molly started crying, she believes me. She’s never doubted anything I’ve ever said. “Why would someone do that?” she asked through sniffles. I stood up and walked to the bathroom to grab their toothbrushes and toothpaste. “To make us vulnerable and defenseless. They want us. Which is why we need to get out of here before they can find us so, hurry up and gather anything you deem necessary,” I told them seriously. Julian stood up and ran after me to the bathroom. “How do you know all this stuff Annabelle?” He asked me, now looking scared. I put all the toothbrushes and toothpaste into the bag as well as some toilet paper. Then I left the bathroom and headed towards my room to pack up some of my clothes and things. “Annabelle!” Julian shouted. I dropped the bag onto the ground and turned to look at my brother. “Because I’m psychic. It’s been that way ever since I was 5 years old, maybe even longer. I get visions of things that will happened, and they always come true. It’s not something that I can control as it’s never been in our family before so I can’t force myself to see a vision. They just come to me. Now can you just trust and believe in me?” Julian ran over to me and wrapped his arms around me. His head rested against my breasts. He was ten years old and almost as tall as me. His hair was curly brown, slightly long but not too long. I brought my hand up and ran my hand through his hair. “Everything will be okay if we hurry. They’re going to be here soon. Please Julian. If something happens to me, you must be strong and protect Molly. She’s only six years old. She can’t take care of herself,” I told him. He let go of me and looked up into my eyes. His eyes are the same colour as dad’s eyes green with a bit of blue in them. He nodded his head and said, “Okay. I’ll trust you and I’ll do as you say. But I hope that it doesn’t come to that.” I leave the bag where I dropped it and run up the stairs. “I hope so too Julian, but there’s no guarantees. I feel something bad is going to happen shortly.” I told him as I descended the stairs. I reached my room and found a bag in my closet then started shoving clothes into it. Not too much just my favourite stuff. And some stuff I might need. I took some blankets from my bed and grabbed my pillow then shoved it into the bag. I grabbed my purse from my closet and hung it over my shoulder. Then I zipped up the bag and carried it out of the room. I heard a noise coming from the entrance of the house. Someone was trying to get in. I quickly ran down the stairs and told Molly and Julian to hide under the bed and not to make a sound. “I’m going to run out the backdoor and try to lure them away. If I don’t come back for you then something happened, and I need you guys to go to the police and find help. They can take care of you. Know that I would never leave you if I had a choice.” I told them as quietly as I could. They both hugged me tightly then crawled under the bed till I couldn’t see them anymore. I grabbed my bag off the floor and ran down the stairs to the back door. I opened the door quietly and locked it behind me then I ran away from the house, making a bunch of noise so they would hear me. I ran into the wooded area close to our house and hid behind a tree. Then I slumped down, hiding my bag in a nearby bush. Someone came running in my direction. I could hear multiple footsteps crashing on the ground. It sounded like two people, maybe three. But why would they want us? I don’t understand. I’m a seventeen-year-old girl. I’m not ugly but I’m not the most beautiful person in the world. My hair is long and somewhat messy. It’s curly like my brother’s but harder to tame. I’m about 5’5 just above average for a girl. And I’m super thin. I find it impossible to gain weight. The footsteps become closer, and someone starts talking. “I think she went that way; we have to get her for the boss.” Shit, I need to get out of here. But how can I escape. They’ll hear me. I quickly stand up and run off in another direction. “I have to get away from this and come back for my siblings,” I tell myself quietly as I run as fast as I can. Suddenly a strong hand grabs onto my arm “I’ve got you now girl,” he says with a creepy looking smile. “Let go of me you piece of trash,” I yelled at him as I stomped on his foot then kneed him in the nuts. He let go of my arm to winces in pain. I took the chance and took off running, trying to evade capture. I was on the track team in school so I can run fast. Suddenly a hand comes down and knocks me on the head. I start losing my vision and fall to the ground.
