“Are you still upset?” Amos asked out of the blue. We headed to work after, and I tried to both concentrate and not wish for the land to open up and swallow me whole because, with my luck, it might just happen.
“I’m not upset.” I answered almost automatically while making sure not to mix up the files I had just reviewed. I may be flustered, but I can’t let it reflect on my work.
He inched closer, eyes gleaming with curiosity.
“Then why do you keep avoiding looking at me?” he asked again. If it wasn’t for our bond, I would have thought he was teasing me, but I could actually feel the sincerity in his question.
I took a deep breath, trying my best to calm down so I wouldn’t recall what happened earlier. “I’m not upset, Alpha. I’m just embarrassed at how I acted.”
