The following morning Leeann gave Thomas of House Albright a horse and invited him to ride with them to the first city of Algiers; from there, he could decide. He welcomed the idea. The caravan spent the next week on the Salt Road, as it is called, and made it out of the forest to the city of Algiers without further incident. It turned out that this city is the last habitation of man before the excellent ape kingdom. The city of Algiers sat on a cliff, with the castle built right on the edge of that cliff. When they reached this city, Leeann sold everything. She sold the silk, spices, and even the wagons and draft horses. Leeann then paid the teamsters and men-at-arms well and dismissed them. She found an inn on the city's outskirts and called the boys down from their rooms about seven.
