A Fairy Ends
“Tales of flowers, fey lovers’ kiss
Tomcat screams in with a hiss
Bring me death’s sweet caress.”
Book 1, set 1
Taylenel left the fairy forest quietly and by himself. Flying low, he wore his armor and carried his sword, Quiet Sleeping. He knew the fey lands would miss the sword when he left, but all magic had faded for him. It started when Clarrissa was found, and it never really came back.
He came to a castle in the mountains where he felt a need for him existed. The gates were unguarded, and he knew in his soul that someone there needed him. Him and only him.
After searching, he came across a pair of young ones in the courtyard tied together.
He cut their bonds, leather straps.
"Come with us, dear fairy; the knight will kill you," said the girl of seventeen. "Fairies don't die."
“Run. Run fast,” said Taylenel. “Run before he comes.”
The children, the boy being ten, ran from the courtyard as quick as they could, but the knight came from the hall.
“The children are gone, knight.”
"It was never about the children," said the knight, whispering, barely heard.
“I’ll not let you follow them.”
“Defend yourself, fairy.”
Taylenel raised his sword, point forward.
“Yaaaaa,” yelled the knight as he charged and struck as Taylenel dropped his weapon.
The head fell from the fey’s shoulders.
The knight, Sir Galahad, picked up the tiny sword.
He would return it.
He knew the story as told to him by the fey Queen.
Fairies should not suffer.
Perhaps he had damned his soul.
But fairies should not suffer.
