The house was quiet as I closed the door behind me. Malachi had fallen asleep on the walk home from the café. Wes walked with me until we got to Brielle and Brody’s porch. He seemed less tense, and I feel like we can finally leave the past in the past. Leaning over Malachi’s bassinet, I gently placed him inside, hovering for a moment to stare at him. I still didn’t know what to think about having a pup. I’d convinced myself that it would never happen all the way up until I was actually giving birth.
