Daniel Graduation day came in the twinkle of an eye. I wasn’t prepared, and I was sure no one was. One second, I was in the principal’s office getting told i was lucky to be graduating at all, and the next, I’m in a sea of green gowns, waiting to get that piece of paper that suddenly felt like it was made of lead. And it was because of all the hard work and the things I gave up to get here. The things we all gave up to be here. I’d dreaded this day, the many nights I’d had to sleep alone in my room, without him. Weeks of not talking to him, and yet it felt like months. My dad didn’t show up for my graduation. That was no surprise at all. He was never around for the real moments, the moments I needed him… wanted him to be there, just the ones where he could show off his power
