“Eleanor, I have no time to listen to your nonsense.” When Mia realized that the other end had gone silent, she furrowed her brows and continued speaking. Eleanor was getting more and more ridiculous. Now, the most pressing matter was to open that door and escape as soon as she could.
“Stop acting! Just now, your good friend Jessica gave Oscar a call. Stop clinging on to him, Mia. Let me tell you, our parents have already decided on our engagement. We’ll be together very soon. You no longer stand a chance,” Eleanor boasted over the phone.
Mia froze.
They were getting engaged.
Her father and mother were getting desperate. They made the decision by themselves. Were they depriving Mia of any form of free will or choice?
True enough. The Jones family needed funds to pay back their debt. They needed to be linked with the Burton family through marriage, and her older sister Eleanor was the only candidate left.
However… would Oscar agree to it?
When she remembered that handsome boy’s bright smile, Mia felt her heart ache.
However… They were never related to one another in any way. If Oscar was willing, what say did she have in this?
“Really? Congratulations then!” Mia spoke coldly.
“Mia, if you contact Oscar one more time and if I find out about it, I’ll… I have a video of you from last night. If I publicize it, Oscar will definitely feel disgusted by you. It’ll also be impossible for you to get married in the future!” On the other side of the call, Eleanor continued on with great satisfaction. “Oh, that’s right. Did you know that Oscar’s mother has always been against your marriage with him? Even if I didn’t return, she would not have agreed to it.”
“Why?” curiosity overwhelmed her and Mia could not help but ask.
“Ha ha! Because Mrs. Burton once got someone to look at your compatibility. They assessed your astrological star sign and your features. The medium said that you’d never bear a son. Hence… she picked me instead as a substitute for you. I’ll carry on the bloodline of the Burton family! She wanted to cancel your engagement a long time ago. She even asked Oscar to break up with you. So, stop clinging on to Oscar.” Eleanor’s voice reeked with pride.
“I never requested for Oscar to help me, and neither will I do so in the future. I will not cling to him either. Since you think so highly of yourself, watch your man properly,” Mia said in a low voice. She was worried that Dylan would find out that she was attempting to flee while he was in the bathroom.
After hanging up the call, she grabbed the door handle with both hands. She needed to leave this place as soon as possible.
She channeled all her strength into pushing the door open. In her panic, she broke out in cold sweat. However, the door did not budge. What was going on?
“That door is secured by a fingerprint lock. No one else can open it apart from me.” The indolent voice of a man sounded from behind her. She heard him continue saying, “Also, you’re now stuck with me. I’m afraid Oscar Burton does not have the ability to take you away.”
Mia’s body stiffened. Large beads of sweat rolled down her forehead. When had this man… come out? How much of the call had he heard?
She could only close her eyes helplessly. Then, she chuckled wryly before turning around. She had resigned herself to her fate.
“Are you… Mr. Greco? I… I’m not very capable. I’m afraid you won’t be selecting me. I’ll take my leave right now. Can I trouble you to open the door for me? I want to go home!” Mia forced herself to calm down before uttering those words.
As Dylan stood there in his suit, his attractiveness was simply suffocating.
He walked towards Mia one step at a time. Imperceptibly, an oppressive aura shrouded him, causing Mia to break out in cold sweat. She started to imagine all the different kinds of ways she would meet her death as a consequence for impersonating someone else.
After all, within Aramoor City, who was unaware of the methods in which he used to deal with people?
He approached Mia and trapped her between his two arms once more before slowly drawing closer.
The man’s masculinity was overwhelming as his scent slowly invaded her nostrils. She was going to be drugged unconscious by this man…
Didn’t they say that Dylan was ruthless? Why was he… so full of charm!
Dylan lowered his head and whispered into her ear, “You’ve… been hired.”
His warm breath blew against her ear lobe. His actions were extremely intimate and Mia’s face instantly flushed red. The edges of her ears were burning with intense heat.
“Click”
The door behind her opened once more. “Go home and pack up your belongings right now. You are to move into the Greco Residence tomorrow morning.”
He straightened his body and stared calmly at her. Vague amusement could be seen in his eyes.
“What?!” Mia no longer cared about the awkward atmosphere. She stared at Dylan in astonishment. She had no experience in the field, how could she… get hired? She obviously hadn’t done anything just now.
What more, didn’t they say that Dylan loathed the company of women?
Would he be okay with her moving into the Greco Residence?
“Or do you want to… head back with me now? Hm?” he raised his brows and asked.
