They circled the landing pad once more, and when Piran said they were secure Ryann led Deva back to the Proteus.
Piran headed up-front, talking technicalities with Keelin. The pilot wasn’t happy—she sussed a few choice comments—but it made sense for her to know exactly what Piran was up to.
Ryann sat Deva down and checked her wounds. They were superficial, and it only took a moment to clean them. The girl was over her initial shock now, and even smiled when Ryann repeated that things weren’t as bad as they appeared. The Heralds might know the evacuation plan existed, but they didn’t know the details.
On Ryann’s suggestion, Deva lay down in her bunk to rest, leaving Ryann alone in the cabin. She sat, and she planned.
