53: Deva Deva They tied Deva’s wrists and ankles with heavy webbing. They forced her between two stacks of crates, then pushed her to the floor of the trailer, next to a hooded figure. The figure groaned and tried to shuffle away, but one of the Heralds‌—‌there were at least five of them, including Sadira‌—‌kicked, hard enough that the figure yelped. Sadira leaned in close to Deva. “Don’t try anything stupid.” She slapped Deva across the face. It stung, warmth flooding her cheek. Deva glared at the woman. Sadira sneered, then spun away, calling the other Heralds after her. They disappeared into the main passageway, out of sight. All Deva could see was a dim glow that flickered occasionally. The Heralds clanked about, muttering too quietly for Deva to hear their words over the throaty
