No one moved.
Hundreds of students stood frozen in the courtyard as every stone statue remained bowed before Evelyn.
The silence was almost unbearable.
Then, slowly…
The statues returned to their original positions.
The silver glow faded from their eyes.
It was as though nothing had happened.
Except everyone had seen it.
Whispers erupted across the courtyard.
“They bowed to her.”
“First the Blood Hounds…”
“Now the statues.”
“Who is she?”
Dean Blackwood raised his voice.
“Classes are dismissed for the remainder of the afternoon.”
The students hesitated.
“Return to your dormitories.”
Though they obeyed, they kept looking back at Evelyn as they left.
Within minutes, the courtyard was nearly empty.
