Valerie seems a little impressed as she nods, I must admit.
"At first only the rich were allowed to procreate," she explains. "Then it was the richest," she scoffs in mockery. "Then they banned procreation altogether. Programmed the chip to neuter all reproductive organs," she lifts a shoulder. "Wasn't that hard to do. But it certainly had consequences."
My brows come together as I brood. "People rioted?"
"Oh, riots are an understatement. They started killing off everyone at high government positions. So nobody wanted to work for it anymore. Hell, they had potentially eternal lives - why would they risk getting shot tomorrow? Wasn't that money in the world.
