Chapter Thirteen: Decent Conversation

1425 Words

After dinner, things became a lot calmer. We hadn’t talked about the incident yet, but I suspected that Hunter wanted to talk about it later. I could tell by the way he looked at me that there was something he wanted to say. It was safe to say that I was pretty ashamed of what I’d done. It was irresponsible, and I could have gotten into a whole lot of trouble because of it. I did, actually, and people got hurt because of me. It was a lesson I’d learned. I’d keep my temper in check because it was essential for the cooperation between us. From the get go, it was obvious that Hunter and I didn’t get along, but he came for me and that meant a lot to me. If he hadn’t—if he didn’t care—I would probably be dead by now, once again, because of my mouth. I was sure I wasn’t like this before.
