Malcolm parked the car in the empty lot, but I hadn’t gotten out yet. I felt too tired. I literally only had four hours of sleep, and I couldn’t sleep in the car after I woke up. Not with everything that was on my mind. The sky above was gray. The clouds gathered overnight, and now it looked like it was fixing to rain. I could smell it in the air. That earthy, natural smell that couldn’t be associated with anything other than rain was my favorite smell in the world.
