“You wanted to see me?” I say to Braine when I get close enough to her spot at the bannister, it’s almost like she doesn’t hear me, her gaze remains fixed on the people scrambling about beneath us as they begin the final preparations for tonight’s ball. For some reason I drum my fingers against my thigh anxiously. Something about tonight was eerie. Maybe it was the general aura that hung above us since we got to this place, but I caught myself glancing around as I waited for Braine to eventually speak.
