2763 Words

TWELVE Marie held Myra’s hand as she stared at the tubes, monitors, and machines humming in rhythm with her heartbeat. She remembered being hooked up to the same machines after she was hung and wondered if Myra was drifting through the heavens with her guardian angels. She stared long and hard willing Myra to wake up and didn’t hear Cory enter the room. “Marie, you need to eat, please, you’ve been sitting here for hours. I know how painful this is for you, but you’re not doing her any good if your health fails.” Marie let a tear glide down her cheek as it dangled at the end of her jaw and finally dropped on her arm. “I know, I’ve just been trying to contact her telepathically to wake up, how silly of me.”
