Chapter 10Jacob jolted awake at dawn, convinced that he had overslept and missed Sebastian altogether. However, as the house was still quiet and his hot water had not yet been brought up, he lay back and dozed fitfully until the servant tapped at the door. Sebastian arrived promptly after Jacob had taken an early breakfast and Jacob was relieved to see they would be travelling in a curricle, rather than on horseback. Once they were out of Bath, Sebastian concentrated on the horses and didn’t seem in a conversational mood. To a close observer, he appeared almost nervous.
