Chapter 5: Killing the Boss

Wu Tian felt rather clever, as sitting back and reaping the rewards had indeed been a fast way to level up. After killing three critically injured high-level demon beasts, Wu Tian’s level skyrocketed to 11, making him a Level 1 Martial Master. To put it in perspective, even before his cultivation had been ruined, he was only at Level 1 Martial Master. Now, just a few days later, he had regained his former strength—it felt amazing.

Having reaped the benefits, Wu Tian decided to keep waiting from a safe distance. However, to his frustration, an entire day passed without any more demon beasts flying by.

“Hisssss!” At that moment, a strange sound rapidly approached.

The high-level demon beasts outside the cave became restless, some even began to flee.

Boom! A series of rumbling sounds erupted. Wu Tian looked toward the source and saw countless large trees collapsing, while the ground cracked open with a massive fissure.

“Something’s coming from beneath the ground. What is it?” Wu Tian stared in shock at the ground.

Boom! Rocks flew everywhere as a black giant serpent, about 30 feet long and 8 feet thick, burst out from the earth. The surrounding demon beasts scattered in all directions.

Hisssss! The giant serpent, having emerged from the ground, flicked its crimson tongue and made its way straight for the cave entrance.

“Holy crap! This is bad! A Level 9 demon beast! It’s the Black Dragon Python!” Wu Tian exclaimed in shock, quickly retreating. This was no longer a situation where he could just sit back and reap the rewards. A Level 9 demon beast had appeared. Even if it was just a stray attack, he’d be dead.

As Wu Tian retreated, the Black Dragon Python had already reached the cave entrance.

“Roar!” A deafening roar came from within the cave, followed by a blast of air.

Boom! The massive body of the Black Dragon Python collapsed, crashing heavily onto the ground. It slid dozens of feet before coming to a stop, leaving destruction in its wake.

“Hisssss!” The Black Dragon Python let out a terrifying hiss, writhing its giant body as it rushed toward the cave entrance.

At that moment, a massive silver wolf emerged from the cave. The silver wolf’s body gleamed with faint silver light, and its eyes were full of viciousness.

Wu Tian's eyes widened in disbelief. "A Silver Wolf! Another Level 9 demon beast! No wonder it's so powerful!"

As Wu Tian marveled at the scene, the Silver Wolf and the Black Dragon Python began to engage in battle. The Black Dragon Python shot a stream of black venom at the Silver Wolf, while the Silver Wolf countered with a blade of wind. The two attacks collided in the middle.

Boom! The venom and wind blade collided, creating loud explosions. The surroundings felt like a storm was raging, but the rain was venom, melting the trees at a visible speed. Fortunately, the Silver Wolf had a silver shield around it, protecting it from the venom.

Boom! The Black Dragon Python’s massive tail suddenly fell from the sky, striking the Silver Wolf with immense force. The Silver Wolf’s body was slammed into the mountain, causing the entire mountain to tremble, and half of it nearly collapsed.

Perhaps feeling the intensity of the battle between the two Level 9 beasts, the demon beasts within a several-mile radius grew uneasy and began to flee in all directions.

Boom! The two Level 9 beasts continued their fierce battle.

Air blasts, wind blades, venomous projectiles, earth spikes… various attacks rained down in every direction, leaving the once fertile mountain around the chaotic and desolate.

Under such overwhelming power, anything within range would be crushed to dust. Luckily, Wu Tian had retreated far enough. If he’d gotten caught in the periphery of the battle, he would have been done for.

The two Level 9 demon beasts continued fighting for an entire day and night, nearly exhausting all their energy. Yet, they were still at a stalemate at the entrance of the cave, both gasping for air in exhaustion.

Suddenly, a golden light erupted from the cave entrance, forming a beam of light that shot straight into the sky.

"The Chaos Spirit Fruit is ripe! There's only half an hour left to harvest it. The battle should be over soon!" Wu Tian thought to himself, spotting the golden beam from a distance.

Sure enough, as the golden light beam appeared, the Black Dragon Python and the Silver Wolf both moved at once. Neither could wait any longer.

Boom! The two beasts used the last of their strength to crash against each other, shaking half the mountain into rubble.

The Black Dragon Python bit down on the Silver Wolf’s neck while the Silver Wolf desperately clamped onto the Black Dragon Python's vitals. Blood flowed across the ground, but neither demon beast was willing to let go. Both wanted the Chaos Spirit Fruit and refused to release their grip.

Wu Tian watched as the health bars above the two demon beasts rapidly depleting. In just a few minutes, they were almost at zero.

“Here’s my chance!” Wu Tian couldn’t contain his excitement any longer. He charged toward the two entangled Level 9 beasts without a second thought.

This was an opportunity too rare to miss. Both Level 9 demon beasts were heavily wounded, their health nearly gone. More importantly, they were locked in a death grip. Whoever released their hold first would be destroyed. If Wu Tian could strike at their vital points, one of them would surely die.

The two demon beasts saw Wu Tian charging at them. They knew his intent, but neither released their hold.

“Human! Let’s make a deal. If you kill this stupid wolf, I’ll give you a ton of great spirit herbs and treasures!” a dark voice echoed in Wu Tian’s mind. It was the Black Dragon Python speaking.

“Human, don’t listen to that snake. It’s trying to use you!” The Silver Wolf’s voice followed.

“Black Dragon Python, the deal is on. I’ll kill the wolf, and you’ll give me the spirit herbs and treasures!” Wu Tian shouted at the massive Black Dragon Python.

“Deal! I’ll hold the stupid wolf down, and you stab its throat!”

“Awrooo!” The Silver Wolf howled, attempting to kill Wu Tian. But the Black Dragon Python tightened its coils around the Silver Wolf and sank its venomous fangs into its neck.

Now, both the Silver Wolf and the Black Dragon Python were motionless.

Without hesitation, Wu Tian leaped onto the Black Dragon Python’s body, raising his great sword and charging at the Silver Wolf that the Black Dragon Python was constricting.

“Instant kill activated! Kill!”

Wu Tian’s sword plunged into the Silver Wolf’s neck, but just as he was about to strike, the Black Dragon Python tightened its grip even further. At the last moment, Wu Tian’s sword changed direction and stabbed straight into the Black Dragon Python’s vital spot.

Boom! A critical hit rang out, and the Black Dragon Python’s health bar plummeted to zero.

“Hisssss!” The Black Dragon Python let out a final scream as its giant body collapsed. Its furious eyes widened in disbelief, unable to comprehend that Wu Tian had killed it in the end.

“Sorry, my hand slipped,” Wu Tian muttered at the fallen serpent.

Ding!

“Congratulations to player Wu Tian for killing the Level 9 demon boss Black Dragon Python! You have earned 100,000 experience points and 60 points of instant kill proficiency.”

“Congratulations to player Wu Tian for leveling up 9 times! Your current level is 20 (Level 10 Martial Master).”
