Liam's POV Four years ago... "Are you okay, Lizzy?" I asked her worriedly. I noticed she'd been kind of moody since I got here. I f*****g hated seeing her that way. Lizzy smiled at me but I knew it wasn't genuine. Those are one of the smiles she gives whenever she tries to hide a secret. I recognized those fake smiles she usually flashed at me whenever she didn't want to tell me anything and most times, the secret came out worse. They were horrible by the way. They reminded me of those demon-possessed characters in horror movies and I didn't know why. I thought about telling her countless of times but it always slipped my f*****g mind. "Yes, I'm fine," she replied without looking at me in the eye and took a sip of her red wine. Something seemed to be eating her up and I was sure of it. "I know you're not fine. You don't look fine to me," I told her in all honesty. "You look like s**t," I added, laying emphasis on the last word. I saw her throwing me a disgusted look and I almost laughed out loud. "Liam!" She yelled and threw the last stewed chicken nugget at my chest. "Hey! Bad, Lizzy, bad!" I grabbed a napkin and wiped the stain off my shirt. It faded into a faint shade of red. "It's not cool to waste food, dude. But on the bright side, you did save me from having to eat one more chunk of poison." I laughed. Lizzy gasped and her eyes widened. She yelled again, "Oh really now? So I cook chunks of poison?" "When have you ever not?" I asked her with a straight face, holding back the laugh that was threatening to rip out of my lips. I loved Lizzy more than words could express but to be honest she had to be the world's worst cook. And yes, I've told her. Only Lizzy would cook something as simple as noodles and it would still turn out horrible, in taste and appearance. Her meals would go well as a perfect Halloween decor. They could even be used to ward off evil spirits. One time she made soup for me when I was as sick as a dog after catching a flu and boy, I got even sicker, I was bedridden as a result. Yes, it was so f*****g terrible! I heard if you took little amounts of venom regularly, overtime your immune system got used to the poison or something like that. It was the same with Lizzy's cooking. I'd gotten used to it that her meals almost didn't taste like garbage anymore. Keyword – almost. As bad as her food was, I love her so much. She was the only one I had and that's what was making me angry… seeing how she was looking worn out didn't sit well with me. I watched her dull face and tried to smile a little. Lizzy rolled her eyes. "Ha ha, very funny." "I wasn't trying to be. You know it's true." "My cooking has gotten better, you know," she said, pouting. "Yes and I'm f*****g Uncle Ted," I replied sarcastically. "Ew, gross!" Lizzy grimaced and feigned a gag. "Yeah, that's everyone's reaction each time they taste your cooking." I chuckled. Lizzy grabbed a fork from the table and pointed it at me. "Say one more nonsense about my cooking and I'll make a beef broth with your dick." "Can you handle it though?" "What?" "Wouldn't it be too big for your pot?" I smirked. Lizzy threw her head back in a fit of laughter. "Oh I bet it's so big it has all the girls running away from you. Which is why you don't have a girlfriend." She mocked me. "Who says I don't have a girlfriend?" I asked, smiling. I knew her next reaction yet I just wanted to see it. "Oh! Liam! Who's she? What's her name? Since when? Why haven't you told me about her?" She bombarded me with questions, as expected. "We'll get to that but first, you'll have to tell me what's bothering you." "There's no fooling you, now is there?" Lizzy sighed and continued, "It's my husband." "I had a hunch. What about him, again?" Lizzy paused for a few seconds and then told me, "He has a mistress." "Are you sure about this?" I knew her husband. He didn't seem like the kind to do that. He loved my sister to the moon and back – I thought. "Yes, I am. I've been suspicious for a long time now. I know he is cheating on me, Liam. The signs are all there staring at me in the face. He has a mistress." "Do you know who it is?" "No." "Do you think it's because she cooks better?" I teased, trying to lessen the thick air. "Liam!" Lizzy shouted with a big scowl on her face. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Have you confronted your husband?" "No but I'm planning to." "If your suspicions turn out to be in fact true, I'll f*****g beat him to a pulp, I swear it. I might even kill him." "And have your big sis widowed? That's not very nice." "You think?" I asked and looked out the window. It seemed like there was going to be a hell of a rainstorm that evening. "Yeah, enough about me, Liam. Tell me about your girlfriend." I looked at Lizzy and I smiled. She was my mother, my sister, my best friend and the only real family I had. She was a gem, the sweetest person I knew. "Girlfriend? When did I mention that word?" I feigned ignorance. "Are you lying to me?" She asked, picking up a table knife. "Feisty! Don't you want your children to see their uncle?" I said, raising my brows while drawing back. " They will. I just want to give you a small, tiny mark!" She said, grinning evilly. Without waiting around, I quickly ran to the living room as I threatened never to visit her again. She laughed while chasing me all around the sitting room. Had I known that would be the last time I saw her alive, I would've hugged her tightly and never let go.
