HIS LITTLE BRIDE (COMPLETE)

CHAPTER 14

It was a big day for his family as well as the company. It was the day they were celebrating one hundred years ever since the company was first formed so everyone was going to be there. He was in charge of the anniversary celebrations and he had gone out of his way to make it a special and memorable day for everyone.

The celebrations were starting around five in the evening and ending somewhere around midnight just depending on the mood of the people. He was still at home waiting for his wife to come out of the bedroom. He had hired some people to do a complete makeover to his wife. It was a big day and since his wife was the face of the company she had to represent that as well. It’s been an hour since he last saw her and he was getting so impatient. His wife had been a bit troublesome ever since she got pregnant and it was a hassle to let her put on makeup.

He still remembered the day she had to attend a certain event; he had to appease her with food for her to agree to wear what they wanted her to wear. She was picky and choosy and she wasn’t to blame. All the problems will soon disappear after she gives birth. There was still three more months to go before the due date.

The ladies came out of the bedroom smiling and he knew that they had succeeded.

‘Is everything okay?’ he asked anxiously.

‘It all went down well, you have a beautiful wife sir,’ the older woman said and he thanked her.

He left the ladies and he went straight into the bedroom. He found her standing looking at the mirror by the wall. She looked pretty magnificent in that white evening gown. He walked towards her wearing that huge smile on his face and she turned around to look at him smiling.

‘I can’t recognize myself,’ she said with a giggle as he approached her.

‘You look beautiful my love,’ he said as he wrapped his arms around her waist. She didn’t fight him but went into his embrace willingly.

‘Thank you very much. Doesn’t my stomach stick out too much?’ she asked him as she looked at her belly.

He smiled upon seeing how huge she had become in her second trimester. He put his hand on her belly and he waited for it. He closed his eyes and waited and waited and it finally came. He opened his eyes and smiled at her. Feeling that recently had been his greatest joy.

‘He is kicking again?’ Selena asked as soon as he removed his hand.

‘He is energetic and he is probably telling us that it will be okay and he isn’t sticking out too much,’ Sean told his wife and she burst out laughing at his remark.

‘I guess that is the cue for us to leave, we will be late if we keep on debating about this,’ Selena said as she hooked her arms around his neck.

‘Is that the gesture you are supposed to do when you want to leave? It is as if you are silently telling me to delay leaving for a moment longer,’ he asked as he lifted her chin with his thumb.

She looked so appetizing he just wanted to rip that damn gown off her and take her right there but that would wait. They had a ceremony to attend and being late was not an option.

‘That is not what I am implying but I need this,’ she said as he kissed him on his lips.

She looked at her with those dreamy eyes, unable to stop himself he kissed her so deep and let the moment linger for a while. They were disturbed by the phone call, so he had to break away from her and pick up the phone call.

His secretary was just informing him that the other guests were already arriving and that he should be on his way. Upon ending the call, he fixed Selena’s makeup and applied some gloss on her lips to compensate for the one that he had eaten while kissing her. She laughed as he led her out of their bedroom while he holds her jacket.

Richard was already waiting for them outside with the car, so he just helped his heavy pregnant wife in the car and settled himself next to her after that. On their way to the company, it happened again. It didn’t surprise him a lot, he just instructed Richard to stop by the food mall.

Sean rushed out of the car and ordered some chicken wings for her and some soda. He rushed back with the food back to the car where his hungry wife quickly took her food and thanked him. He covered her with a blanket afraid that she will spoil the dress before they even arrive at the function.

‘Thank you for doing this, I feel as if I am overdoing it,’ Selena said shyly. He knew that sometimes she feels bad for making him do this but he didn’t mind at all.

‘Don’t ever think of it like that. I am here for you, I am your husband and in times like this you can rely on me. I will do everything you want,’ he told her and she looked at him with worry still in her eyes.

‘Some people might think that I am bullying you or something like that. I wouldn’t want people to look down on you because of me,’ she said looking down.

‘Cheer up and don’t get upset. I don’t want anything happening to our son or you. So if you want something despite of where we are all you have to do is just tell me and I will be there in an instant,’ he told her and surprisingly he meant every word of it.

‘I really appreciate hearing you saying that. I will make sure that I repay you once this is all done,’ she said pointing at her belly.

‘If you insist then I will tell you right now that if you want to repay me then be safe and happy,’ he said and she light up right away.

‘I can do that,’ she said and began to dig into her food.

He smiled and shook his head as he watched his wife devouring those chicken wings. She really loved food but this was another level, he understood it though. She was no longer one but two so it was acceptable. They were only a few minutes until they reach the company and he just hoped that she will be done before then.

She was probably hungry because she was done before the car reached the destination. She wiped her hands and checked her makeup before they even thought of getting out of the car.

They were a lot of reporters outside. There was a red carpet even first before the ceremony. At least Selena was now used to this kind of lifestyle, so he wasn’t panicking at all. He got out of the car first and held his hand for Selena to get out after him. It took a while since she had to move carefully without causing any damage to herself or the baby. The second she stepped out of the car, the flashes were already on them.

She was a genius, he applauded her as she put on that business smile she always does every time she attends events or have some photo shoots. He hooked her arm with his and walked with her pace. She smiled and waved like a pro to the cameras as they walked on the red carpet towards the hall where the ceremony will be happening. After posing for a few shots, Sean led his wife inside. She had to sit down and rest, her heels were a bit high and he didn’t like her wearing such high heels especially during this crucial time.

When they entered inside the first place they went to was where his mother was. She was busy talking with friends and colleagues. She smiled upon seeing them. He watched as his mother embraced his wife in a light hug as the tow greeted each other.

‘I can tell that everything is okay by just looking at you. I guess my baby he is doing his best in taking care of you,’ his mother said and somehow he felt so embarrassed.

‘He is, he really takes after you,’ Selena said in response which made his mother blush in return.

‘This is why I like you. You know the right words to say. Come and let me introduce you to some of my friends,’ his mother suggested but he stopped her.

‘Don’t let her stand for long,’ he advised his mother and she patted his shoulder.

‘I too was once pregnant so don’t worry about a single thing. Go and talk with your colleagues or anyone. I will take good care of my daughter, so shush,’ his mother practically chased him away.

Since she chased him away, he obliged and bided them farewell and made his way towards his stepfather and the other directors. It was going to be such a long night and he hoped that it will be a success.

Selena couldn’t stop laughing as Diana, Sean’s mother kept on telling her about Sean’s childhood. He was quite a naughty child, she realized.

‘I am glad that soon I will be having a grandchild. I am happy that my son is happy with you,’ Diana said and she felt touched by her words.

‘I am the one that should be grateful. Among all the women Sean knows, he chose me. I am not that special, I am young and childish but I am still grateful that he is with me even to this point and day,’ Selena said, feeling emotional.

‘You shouldn’t say that child. You are special, you were able to turn that cold son of mine into such a bubbly. I never thought that one day I will be able to see my son being in such in love or taking care of someone the way he does to you after that Cleo incident. You brought life back to his life, so I just want to thank you for coming into his life and showing him that there is still love out there,’ Diana praised her and she found herself shedding tears.

Diana gave her a handkerchief which she used to wipe her tears away. It was a good thing that her makeup was waterproof otherwise she would have messed everything up.

She didn’t get the chance to say something back as the ceremony officially began. She clapped her hands as her husband looking so dashing in his black tuxedo walked towards the pulpit to make the first remark.

She didn’t even listen to a single word he said, all she could see was how handsome and dashing he was. She just wanted to get the hell out of there and take him home. The thought of him being gawked at by so many eyes in the banquet hall was just so infuriating.

Sean was married to her and yet some women were so daring to flirt with him. How dare they try to snatch her man from her? She heard people clapping and she just did the same.

Sean came down and he walked to where she was seated. He sat next to her and placed his hand on top of hers. She smiled at him and he did the same to her.

The ceremony went on very smoothly with a lot of officials making their speeches and the last person to talk was the chairman who made a great speech outlining the successes, failures and the future of the company as a whole. He was a man full of vision, she just saw that now. If he wasn’t a businessman he would make a great actor. These people were too good at fooling others, she realized.

After the ceremony came to an end, it was time for them to mingle around. Sean disappeared for a while and she was worried. Where did he go to leaving her alone with such old people? She could tell and see that she was the only person who was the youngest in the whole hall.

She walked towards the table with some snacks and she picked up some fruits and began to help herself.

‘I wonder if you are a worm or what!’ Wendy said as she approached her. She just couldn’t believe that Wendy would attack her in such a public place like this.

‘I am not in the mood to fight with you tonight. I am feeling a bit tired,’ Selena said as she looked at her sister in law.

‘Don’t worry I am not here to fight with you. I have realized that with you I can never win. It is time for me to stop doing this anyway. I should behave like an adult and I am very sorry for being an asshole to you. So forgive me and let’s get along,’ Wendy apologized and Selena choked on her fruit.

Wendy gave her a glass of water immediately which she took and drank. After saving herself she looked at Wendy with shock in her eyes.

‘Are you trying to play some kind of game with me?’ she asked not believing a single word Wendy had just said.

‘I mean it, let’s call it a truce,’ Wendy said.

‘She means it,’ Sean said as he approached the tow of them.

‘You know about this?’ Selena asked her husband as he stood right next to her.

‘Yes, so let’s all be friends now and forget about everything. Can you do that for me?’ Sean asked her, she couldn’t say no to him at all.

‘Let’s do that then. I hope that we will not fight or be enemies again in the future,’ Selena said with a smile and they all smiled.

It was a good night after all. They had just resolved a long standing battle. She could tell that her husband had made it possible, how he did it; she just wasn’t ready to know. She was just glad that she didn’t have to fight with Wendy every single time they meet.

What she was now hoping for was for the whole family to sit at the same table and have a decent meal without being anxious or planning against each other’ just the thought of her having dinner with them after the whole thing ends was just frightening.

‘This is good then. See you later,’ Wendy said and left.

Selena looked at her husband and pouted.

‘What’s wrong?’ he asked Selena and she practically rolled her eyes at him and he flicked her forehead lightly before she yelped but it wasn’t loud.

‘Why did you do that?’

‘Who taught you to roll your eyes at your husband in public?’ he answered her with a question and she went silent.

‘Come here,’ Sean said and pulled her to a chair and made her seat.

‘I’m sorry, I was just worried and concerned,’ she said.

‘I know that you can’t bear to part with me for a second, which is the reason why I rushed back as fast as I can,’ Sean said and she smiled at him.

‘So where were you?’ she asked him since the mood was better now.

‘I went to buy you this,’ he said as he opened the box he was holding when he arrived. She was amazed by what she saw. He had bought her some flat shoes. He was really worried about the heels from the get go. Sean removed the heels gently from her feet and he put the pumps on her. They felt so comfortable than the heels.

‘Thank you, I feel like I can breathe now,’ she said feeling grateful.

‘That is good then. I wouldn’t want you tripping or having any crazy incident. Now you can walk and do whatever you want,’ Sean said as he put the heels in the shoe box he just removed her pumps.

‘I want to walk with you,’ she told him and he nodded his head.

‘Let’s do that then while I introduce you to some friends of mine,’ he said as he stood up.

‘Okay, let’s do that,’ she said as she stood up too.

She was shocked when she realized that they had drawn a lot of attention to themselves. People were staring but in a good way which was good, cameramen were busy capturing every single moment. She didn’t know how this was going to turn out but she didn’t care at least for now. Even if she does something good or bad she will still end up in the magazine. As someone who had graced the magazine for a while, she was used to this so it wasn’t that of a surprise if she finds herself on the front page again.

Ignoring the other people looking at them, Selena followed her husband to meet his other colleagues. It was such a good experience, meeting the people that work with her husband and getting to know them. She could feel that she was really part of his life and not just some random stranger he married back then when they met. She was going to make him proud and she was going to make sure of it.

This was her time to get to know the people who were part of her industry as well as the people she was supposed to face on a daily basis. There was one thing she knew she wouldn’t be able to run away from and that was she was the daughter in law of a conglomerate family; and everything she does has an impact on the family as well as the business itself. As the face of the company she has to work so hard to maintain the reputation of the company. She represents the company in everything she does and she really hoped that she will be able to do her duties well even during this period she is currently in.

Judging by the way everyone she met and talked with, it didn’t seem to be a big deal for her to be pregnant despite of the role she has in the company. Ever since the news hit the media, so many articles had been written and most of them were good, there were however those that were against every single thing she does. They didn’t like the fact that she married young and especially to an older man who happens to be rich, she was labeled as a gold digger and people criticized so many things about her.

Being by her husband side had taught her to ignore about things that negatively influences her and focus on only those that can build her. And Sean was that person; he completed her and made her see the world in a new light. He made her have this confidence that she can make it in life and do something great about her life without feeling sorry for herself. He taught her to stand up for herself and to be confident in herself.

Now she was walking, brushing shoulders and shaking hands of people who had millions and billions in their accounts, celebrities and all kinds of famous people she used to see on T.V.

Selena smiled at her husband as he introduced her to his friends and colleagues. She kept on receiving congratulatory messages regarding her pregnancy from them, she was happy that so many people were blessing her. She had a feeling that her baby will be a blessed child and she just couldn’t wait to see her baby.

However she wanted her child to be raised in a harmonious environment and in a loving family. The Sawyer’s house wasn’t exactly that friendly and she had to do something about that before her baby arrives. She wanted her child to grow up being loved the way she was. She didn’t want her child to be raised in an environment that gave her Goosebumps like that. The thought of meeting at the family house was just so chilly and she didn’t know what to do but the fact that Sean who was used to his family dram will be there, gave her comfort and she knew that it will be okay as long as he was by her side.

She looked at her husband once more and he looked down at her. She could see his love for her deep in those eyes. How she just wished to just elope with him and get as far as she can from this place and have a quiet time together. As if he read her mind, he leaned down and he kissed her on the forehead. Feeling his soft and moist lips touching her forehead, she closed her eyes and let the moment linger. This was great; she found all her worries dissipating
