Ava and Mia were hanging out at Ava's place, lounging on the couch and chatting about their lives. Ava felt comfortable enough to confide in Mia about her secret crush on Jake.
"Mia, can I tell you something?" Ava asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mia looked at her with interest. "What is it?"
Ava took a deep breath. "I think I have a crush on Jake."
Mia's expression changed from curiosity to surprise, and then to something else – something Ava couldn't quite read. "You can't be serious," Mia said, her voice laced with a tone Ava hadn't heard before.
Ava felt a pang of defensiveness. "Why not? He's nice, and we get along great."
Mia's eyes flashed with an emotion that looked almost like anger. "You don't know him like I do," she said, her voice rising.
Ava was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
Mia's words spilled out in a rush. "He's not good enough for you, Ava. Trust me, I've seen the way he treats other people. He's not reliable."
Ava felt a surge of frustration. "That's not fair, Mia. You don't know what you're talking about."
The conversation quickly escalated into a full-blown argument. Ava and Mia shouted over each other, their words hurtful and angry.
As the quarrel reached its peak, Ava realized that their friendship might never be the same. The tension between them was palpable, and Ava wondered if their bond was strong enough to withstand the strain.
