Ava woke up to an ordinary Saturday morning, but her world was about to turn upside down. She was lounging in her pajamas, scrolling through her phone, when her mom walked into the living room, looking somber.
"Ava, we need to talk," her mom said, her voice trembling.
Ava's heart sank as she sat up straight. "What's wrong, Mom?"
Her mom took a deep breath before speaking. "Your father and I...we're divorced. He's remarried a woman from Britain."
Ava felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Tears began to well up in her eyes as the reality set in.
She thought about all the times her dad had been distant, all the missed birthdays and holidays. It all made sense now. Ava burst into tears, feeling a mix of emotions: sadness, anger, and betrayal.
Just as she was crying her heart out, the doorbell rang. It was Mia, who had stopped by to hang out. Ava's mom let her in, and Mia immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Ava, what's going on?" Mia asked, concern etched on her face.
Ava's mom filled Mia in on the situation, and Mia quickly wrapped Ava in a warm hug. "I'm here for you, Ava. We'll get through this together."
As they sat on the couch, Mia listened attentively as Ava poured out her emotions. Ava talked about her feelings of abandonment and confusion.
Mia offered words of comfort and support, reminding Ava that she wasn't alone. Together, they cried, laughed, and reminisced about old times.
As the afternoon wore on, Ava began to feel a sense of relief. She realized that she wasn't defined by her parents' relationship. With Mia by her side, Ava felt stronger and more determined to face whatever came next.
