The unexpected invitation

Ava and Jake sat at a small café, sipping their lattes and laughing together. Ava felt a sense of ease with Jake that she hadn't experienced with anyone in a long time.

As they talked, Ava learned more about Jake's passions and interests. She was surprised to find that they had so much in common. They both loved music, hiking, and trying new foods.

Their conversation flowed effortlessly, and Ava found herself feeling more and more comfortable around Jake. She couldn't help but notice the way his eyes sparkled when he smiled.

As the afternoon wore on, Jake walked Ava home. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the neighborhood. Ava felt a sense of peace wash over her as they strolled side by side.

"Thanks for the coffee, Jake," Ava said, smiling up at him.

"No problem, Ava," Jake replied, his voice low and smooth. "I had a great time."

Ava's heart skipped a beat as Jake leaned in close. She wondered if he was going to kiss her. For a moment, time seemed to stand still.

But just as things were getting romantic, Mia appeared out of nowhere, her eyes flashing with a mixture of curiosity and concern.

"Hey, Ava, what's going on?" Mia asked, her voice a little too loud.

Ava felt a pang of guilt, wondering if she'd been spending too much time with Jake. "Just grabbing coffee with Jake," she replied, trying to sound casual.

Mia's eyes narrowed slightly, and Ava could tell she was sizing Jake up. "Cool," Mia said finally. "I'll catch up with you later, Ava."

As Mia walked away, Ava felt a sense of unease. She wondered if her friendship with Mia was about to change. She turned to Jake, who was watching her with a concerned expression.

"Everything okay?" Jake asked, his brow furrowed.

Ava hesitated, unsure of how to explain. "Yeah, it's just...Mia can be a bit possessive sometimes," she said finally.

Jake nodded thoughtfully. "I get it. Friendships can be complicated."

Ava smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Jake. "Yeah, they can be."
