Exam time for the pair had been never ending on the planet of Zaleon. From dealing with leadership, to rejection, to the loss of their parents, to the introduction of a completely unnecessary war, to death and now gathering an army because somehow they were immortal and had special abilities. No matter how much you tried to flatter the image, the truth was that after everything they had been through and despite the strength still present within them, the pair was simply exhausted. Having to fight for the sake of training was a completely different concept to having to fight for the sake of earning the right to train for a war they discovered. It had not seemed fair in the slightest, and knowing that no matter what they would fail these fights was not reassuring in any way, and only emphasized the thought that they needed a back up plan to convince Paulina to take them under her wing. All the pair had received since they had began their journey to a peaceful world was hate, hardships, discrimination and no time to themselves to fully embrace their matehood. As they warmed up on the training grounds they spent the entire previous evening preparing in, the great Alpha and Luna of Gloarian wondered what they would be up against when the time for the fight would arrive.
The worried look on his mate’s face had been enough to push the Alpha forward and despite the guard around, grab onto her hand and place a kiss on it. The guard -as expected- coughed in the background, a sign for them to push away, but this time Razaar was not having it.
‘Hey, I know that we haven’t gotten the most positive responses about this fight since we got here, but we’re going to get through it ok?’ He encouraged, deliberately ignoring the guard that was now glaring at them.
‘Razaar, there’s no way we’re going to beat the Warmecks-’
‘It doesn’t matter. No matter the outcome of this session, we know we need this training, and we will get it. Eliana, we’ve been through so much, if we can conquer death we can get through this. We will do everything in our power to secure that training, together’ he promised, now closer to her than was allowed on the territory of the Warmecks. The one thing the pair had nor realised in their mere moment of togetherness had been the appearance of Paulina with a couple warriors who simply watched from the sidelines as a clear mock.
‘Very heartwarming indeed. Would you like to get back to your positions so we can begin now?’ interrupted the commander as she strode in with confidence, shaking the pair apart instantly. Eliana’s flushed and even more stressed expression had not helped the Alpha who could only suppress his growl and hide his glare as he took a step back to his previous fighting stance. The pair faced each other, thinking they were meant to fight each other, as the commander had mentioned on an earlier date, though soon enough the fake laugh of Paulina had them frowning in confusion as to what they had done wrong now. ‘You won’t be fighting each other’ she stated directly, without any explanations.
‘Why? I thought you said-’
‘I changed my mind. Clearly you’re both very much in love to do any real damage to each other, so let’s just get on with the real fights shall we? Mr Solonov, why don’t we put you in the ring first?’ She suggested walking off from the center of the training grounds and nodding for a male member to walk forward into the arena. Before the fight could commence, the woman decided to add just a tiny fact further. ‘Warmecks are taught to find against their own genders mainly, and in wars are told to attack members of their same gender, it is a method our ancestors discovered drives the highest results. Women have the better ability to destroy women as men do men. We are, however, ready for all occasions, and do inter-gender training, for now we’re going to stick to my rule of same gender fighting. Mr Solonov, you will face my first warrior, and if you beat him, you will proceed to fight the rest, if you do not, you will be out. Same goes for you Miss Genova. This will not be a fight till death, of course, not that it would make a difference to you, Miss Genova’ she mentioned, attempting to introduce dark humour onto the table. The pair looked between each other, knowing that it was the case for both of them, and knowing that aside from fighting to the best of their abilities, they would have no choice but to protect the secret that for some time had been eating them up, that both of them were immortal.
With the knowledge in mind, Razaar nodded, placing himself in a fighting position, ready for whatever fate he would have to face next.
The Warmecks had indeed been trained from a young age to fight anything and everything that existed on their planet, and on other planets. They had been trained to defeat every single member of Zaleon, whether that be Amethyst, Ivory or Vermillion. Simulations had been set up for them to train against human wars and human weapons, and the same went for any other planet with a creature in existence that could be of threat. Warmecks had truly been one of a kind, and they were incredibly hard to beat in a battle.
As Razaar waited for the Warmeck to attack, a smirk instantly played on the man’s face, and it was a clear indicator that the warrior knew well what he was doing. In other scenarios in his own zone the Alpha had been capable of beating anyone. Aside from his mate, of course, who had beaten him at the Grontica. Nevertheless the great Alpha of Gloarian had a reputation of being an emblem of immense strength and power. Though as he waited for the warrior to attack like any other creature on Gloarian would, he realised just how ridiculous the idea seemed in the presence of the Warmecks. The highly trained being remained in his position just a minute longer, and after noticing that Razaar was sticking with his decision to wait for an attack, that’s exactly what the warrior delivered. Within the instant, Razaar had been flat on his back, and had not even realised how or when the Warmeck had attacked, for when he rose back on his feet, the warrior had been in the same position they had started in. With a frown, the Alpha focused on the battle, knowing for sure now that this would be a lot harder.
Deciding to step up his game, the Alpha decided to use his ability of fire to advance in the fight, and with a flare in his hand, he waited for the smirking Warmeck to attack. Once again the Alpha found himself flat on the ground in a matter of seconds, and wondered exactly how the warrior had done it with such speed and ease. Was there something wrong with the Alpha? Or were the Warmecks just far too trained for the abilities of the Ivory leaders? Eliana watched from the sidelines, clenching her fists as she realised that not only was her mate getting severely beaten in a battle, but that she would most probably suffer the same fate as well. In her mind she had begun rehearsing a speech to beg the commander to take them in, and as pathetic as it sounded, it was the only option they had left. Observing the sharpness of the Warmecks had been enough to know they did not stand a chance, and with that she only waited for the worst to come.
Razaar got himself back on his feet, and this time decided to shift into his beast, hoping that it would do him better than the previous hits. The warrior had still been smirking as it happened, and this time waited for the beast to attack him. An angry Alpha had gone with his wolf instincts, and pounced on the warrior, tackling him to the ground. It had seemed a successful move to the Alpha, before he found himself in an opposite position, on his back, his paws hanging out as the warrior had pushed the beast under him. Thinking fast, the Alpha used his abilities of fire once again, and managed to get the warrior off his figure with a burn to his hand, though it had only served as more motivation for the Warmeck, who came back with even more force and had thrown the figure of the Wolf from one side of the arena to the other. Eliana found herself wincing in pain for her mate, hating the fact that there was nothing she could do about it.
The warrior had returned in an instant, and before the Wolf could attack, sent the Wolf flying again back to the other side of the arena. Before he could continue, Razaar switched back, and despite his naked form, emanated from within him the fire that he coated his entire body in so the warrior could not touch him. With that he began shooting balls of fire at the Warmeck that with the utmost skill dodged every single one of the attacks. Warmecks had surely never learnt how to deal with Wolves with the ability of fire, though they had learnt to individually deal with all the abilities of the Yolegs aside from mastering the art of tackling Wolves, and that had now aided the warrior in dodging attacks till he was right in front of the Alpha, and despite not being able to touch him directly, the man pulled out an unfamiliar weapon to the pair, and smacked the Alpha to the ground, knocking the fire right out of him. The now fireless, powerless and exasperated Alpha lay on the ground, switching back to his Wolf as he visualised the warrior return to attack, and knowing that he had no chance of beating the man in human form, he called upon his beast, giving one last push to throw the man off him to the other side of the grounds. Though as the man was thrown he managed to take control mid air and land on his two feet, crouched on the ground, and returned with an attack without a break, now tackling the beast to the ground and placing the weapon firmly upon his neck to get him to surrender.
Razaar’s Wolf squirmed under the figure of the warrior, and soon had no choice but to switch to his human form one last time, to surrender a fight he knew he would not win. The Alpha sure had been disappointed in himself, mostly for his mate, though he knew the warnings had been true, and there truly was nothing he could do to beat the Warmecks after taking such a beating.
Paulina, who had been ready for the loss of the pair, threw the warrior a cloak, one the man dashed upon the naked figure of the Alpha, whose clothes had been long gone in the process of transformation. With shame the man rose to his feet, and looked upon his mate with embarrassment, though he knew she felt nothing but sympathy for the man who did his best to defeat a kind that was practically unbeatable.
‘Mr Solonov, please take a seat. Miss Genova, you’re up next. The fate of your future lies in your hands’ she mentioned, only adding more and more pressure to the mind of the already stressed and worried Hybrid leader. Wordlessly Eliana travelled to the center of the arena, not being able to look at her mate with the same shame knowing she would not make it. The Warmecks had truly been the most gifted of them all on the planet, and it was impossible to take on one without the right training. The only way one could beat a Warmeck was by being a Warmeck, and receiving all the training they had to get to the level they were on.
A female warrior rose to the platform, an expression of seriousness on her face as she waited with her arms behind her back for the woman to attack. Eliana had absolutely no clue what she was meant to do to defeat the woman, and so she remained stationary, deciding that perhaps it would be best to initiate with her powers of water to ease the process. She used her abilities and trapped the warrior into a bubble of water, raising her into the air, though noticed that the woman had no reaction whatsoever to having been put in the bubble to begin with. The woman kept her hands behind her back, and her expression had been exactly the same as she waited to be put down, and that shock in itself killed any hope that the Hybrid leader had within her in an instant.
The warrior noticed the distraction her reaction had caused the great Luna of Gloarian, and used that opportunity to put out a weapon and s***h the bubble of water that broke instantly upon the touch of the blade, and the woman landed crouched on her feet, her hand on the floor. Her face lifted, and in a second the warrior was right in front of Eliana’s face, tackling her to the ground and landing a punch on her face.
As quickly as she could, the Hybrid leader switched to her Wolf form and chucked the warrior off her, throwing her to the other side of the floor. Though as fast as she was gone she returned, without hesitation, and attempted to tackle the Wolf back on the ground. So the woman called upon her Snake, and slithered out the way, getting a safe distance away before switching back to human form. Her switch had only lasted a mere second before the Warmeck returned to face the Hybrid, and the exhausted leader only realised that this creature truly made use of every spare second they had. Shifting back into her Snake, Eliana slithered around the back of the warrior to knock the woman out, though found herself unable to do so as within the next moment the warrior had grabbed firmly onto the figure of the Snake, and stopped it from doing any harm to her by pulling on the Snake tightly to stretch it and cause it pain. With the new feeling of pain the Hybrid leader switched back to her human form, dropping to the ground and gasping for breath at having been choked in her alternate form.
The great Luna of Gloarian wished terribly to give up and give into surrender, though she would be damned if she didn’t resist a little longer, and pushed herself to the best of her abilities, and so as the woman came to attack once again she pushed her away with the force of water and used the distraction to pounce on the woman, shifting into her Snake in the air, and landing a perfect bite on the skin of the warrior.
Eliana had believed that the mere action would be enough to knock out the warrior, and so she slithered back with a feeling of peace. Though once again the Warmeck grabbed onto the snake and pulled on her, a gasping and stunned Eliana switched back to her human form, and finally requested for surrender before the warrior could do worse. She looked back in amazement at the stable figure of the Warmeck, who had not been knocked out by the Hybrid who had knocked out any Amethyst using her poison, and had killed any Ivory with it.
‘You’re not-’
‘Your poison can’t do anything to me with just one sting, sweetheart. It takes a lot more poison exertion to knock out a Warmeck than it does other creatures on Amethyst’ commented the warrior, walking off the platform.
The Hybrid leader stood in shame as Razaar had, and the man who had his fists clenched as he prayed for his mate knew that their assumptions were right, and that they would need to do more to get the training they wished for. Paulina waited for Eliana to get a moment of recovery before speaking.
‘Well, that concludes your fate. Like I said, the Warmecks will participate in this war, but I’m afraid we cannot train you. Remo will show you the way out-’
‘That’s it?’ Snapped Eliana, coming to an end with her patience and letting out the anger that had well been bottled up within her. ‘We come here and tell you about this war in the first place, and you want us Ivory members to fight Warmeck who have years of training? You think that’s fair? You want to deny us the right to train because we aren’t as strong as you? What sense does that make? If we were as strong as you, why would we need to train to begin with? We’re merely two leaders of Gloarian who have come a long way in this entire journey of the upcoming war. It was Razaar and I that gathered the rest of the planet to fight in this war, Razaar and I that fought Balthazar and Razaar and I that went through death and came back. We have the ability of fire and water, abilities of the Amethyst that we shouldn't have, and you want to take that as a sign that you don’t want to train us? What kind of commander are you? We are here, not just to ask you to join this war, because we know that is your purpose and you will, we are here because we need your help getting to the level we were meant to be at. We were born for greatness, because if we weren’t then tell me why I’m alive right now? Tell me why my mate and I have abilities we shouldn’t?’ She yelled, frustrated to the core. Her words had certainly had an immediate effect on the commander, who despite being silent had heard the leader, and heard her well.
The truth was that Paulina was looking for the fighter spirit within the pair, and with the words of the Hybrid leader, had approved to herself that they were in fact, worth training.
‘Very well, Miss Genova. You think you are worthy of being trained, so do I. Though, I cannot take the decision by myself. Like most others on this planet, I have a council that needs to approve this training. I will set up a meeting for tomorrow, and there we can decide the details of your training. In the meantime I suggest you and your mate get some rest, you have fought well today’ she responded, turning the tables within the instant before disappearing with all her guards, including the one that was previously keeping an eye on the pair.
With their new found freedom, Razaar advanced towards his mate and planted a firm kiss on her lips, gathering her in his arms and spinning her around with content.
‘You are the best thing that ever happened to me. You truly are remarkable, my miracle woman’ he commented, placing small pecks on her lips as she smiled at his words.
‘Thank you, I was just so frustrated. I feel like we’ve been in this war for ages already, and it hasn’t even started. I can’t help but wonder what the real war is going to look like’ she whispered, her hands around his neck as they enjoyed the moment of freedom they were getting.
‘It doesn’t matter now. One step at a time. Despite our loss in the fight today, we still got something out of it. Let's just focus on what comes our way in the moment’ he responded, and she nodded, before the coughing of Paulina in the distance shook them apart.
‘I said you two should get some rest, I didn't mean together, Miss Genova. I have agreed to set a meeting with my council to discuss the matter, I have not decided to bend the rules for you and your mate. Please stick to the rules and return to your quarters’ she responded, walking away immediately. The blushing couple sneaked in a last peck and a smile before trailing off to their individual chambers, knowing that they had made some progress, and despite having lost the fights they fought to the best of their abilities.
The truth was that Eliana had been proud of the progress the pair had made, and their constant determination to keep pushing forward, it was an attitude that gave them strength and it was certainly not something they would stop doing. They would save Zaleon, they would get rid of the hierarchy, they would unite their people, they would unite themselves, and they would make the flame proud.
