The shackles that came down with a clasp on Lyra’s hand had been a shock to her, and the gasp that was released from her mouth had been a clear indicator that she had not expected her own brother to turn against her that much. She had watched her brother grow and love his own mate, and despite being happy for him, the thought had repelled her from the idea of having her own mate even more. Though it was only the idea of having mates that worried the woman, more than the actual reality of it. She would only realise this when she met her mate, however, and that moment was closer to her than she knew.
‘What are you doing?’ She asked in surprise, observing the look of hurt on her own brother's face.
‘What I should have done a while ago. You broke the one most forbidden rule of the Yolegs, and for that you will pay’ stated Ozak, leading her out of the shack she called her home. Lyra struggled and flailed around, though her brother had been physically a lot stronger than her, and since she was no longer capable of using her powers due to the shackles that prevented her from it, she could only groan in annoyance at the lack of escape.
‘I’m your sister! You cannot do this to me!’ Yelled the girl, tears welling up in her eyes at the occurrences. A crowd had already gathered around her, and people watched as their master shamelessly arrested his own sister and led her to the cells they owned. The Yolegs had an immense amount of trust in their master, and had every reason to trust that whatever he was doing was for the right reason, though Lyra’s already spoilt reputation on their lands had only helped people understand that it was for the best that the woman was getting locked up by her own brother. The discipline the man showed for his sister only demonstrated how good of a leader he was, and how unbiased his decisions were. It only added the love his people had for him. Pain had conquered every inch of the master who had been severely hurt at the thought of incarcerating his own sister, but the man was as honest and decent as it could get, and no matter the cost he would fight for the greater good.
‘You are not my sister, you are a homewrecker. Mother and father would not be proud of the woman you have become’ he responded calmly, leading her down the stairs of the underground cells that directly cut them all off entirely from nature, and that was as painful as it got for a Yoleg.
‘Why would I care what mother and father thought of me? They abandoned me!’ spat the inconsiderate woman who had yet to understand how love worked. Roughly, Ozak shoved her into the cell, sealing the door shut behind her.
‘Don’t you get it? The mate bond is the strongest force on this planet, stronger than our connection to nature. Mother didn’t abandon you! She loved our father more than anything in existence, that is how strong the bond is. One day you’ll realise with your own mate, if he takes you that is. That does mean that they didn't’ love you, Lyra. Everyone has to pass one day, and that was just time for our parents to pass’ he responded, turning around to leave. Though before he could, the thoughts that floated at the back of his mind came forward, and he could not stop himself from saying the words he’d always wanted to say to her. ‘You know, you always complain about how mother was never there for you, have you ever considered me? Because I was always there for you Lyra, always. Even when mother and father were there. I taught you how to control your element, I taught you how to climb our mountains, I would play in the lakes with you when all I wanted to do was sleep because I was exhausted from training with father. You think I wasn’t hurt when mother and father passed? I was dumped with all the responsibilities and was forced to grow up sooner than I had to. Nevertheless, I have always been there for you, I have always supported and accommodated you, and still you show hate for the flame who gave you a blessed life. You have never once appreciated what you had in life, Lyra, and that is your biggest problem. I actually thought you could change, but I was wrong. You will never change, you are a lost cause, and you are not my sister’ snapped the man, this time making a successful exit, leaving a broken Lyra behind, who was stung by his words, to say the least.
The truth was that the words had hit the woman more than she thought it would have, and as she though back to all his words, she had begun digging a pit in her chest that slowly caused her to collapse to the ground and release her tears into sobs that took over for the rest of the night, knowing she had no one to love and no one that loved her. What had she done to herself?
Ozak returned to his home, feeling lighter after having let the load off his chest, and his only wait now was for his mate, knowing that she would soon be done with the three year sacrifice of being away from him for the best of nature. He went to bed eagerly that night, knowing that at first sight of daylight the very light of his own life would return in his arms, and all would be well again.
The immortal couple had returned to their shack for the night, knowing that a part of their troubles had ended, though the larger issue remained in sight: the war. They had yet to train for the upcoming war, and as excited as they now were to control their elements, they still wished to make an escape from the haunting lands of the Yolegs as soon as possible. Though challenges still lay ahead, and they had yet to get through even half of their issues.
With daylight came the awakening of the four members who woke from their meditation, and were reunited with their loved ones while other four members replaced them after bidding their loved ones farewell. It was a process that had existed since the beginning of time for the Yolegs, and one that kept nature and their people alive. Amongst them had been the master's beloved mate, who immediately after opening her eyes to her world, had a smile on her face, and she dashed away from the Galon of the Yolegs, rushing to the shack where her mate had been long awaiting her. His sleeping figure had been enough for the woman who approached him gently, and placed a long kiss on his lips, one that woke him up instantly, and had him wrapping his arms around the woman he loved so much. Laughs and tears of joy had come out in the process, and by the end were mating like it was their first time, and were completely wrapped in each other's arms in bliss. The woman had yet to catch up to all the drama happening around their lands, though soon she would be informed, and it would bring her back to the reality of being a master of a species.
‘I’ve missed you’ he whispered to her as they lay in the sheets, taking some time off before returning to their responsibilities, but in the meantime Ozak had kept her clueless, enjoying whatever time he had left with her.
WIthin the group of four that had returned from their meditative state had been another named Umar, a man of wind and air, a man kind and gentle, and loyal to the core. Why the flame would pair such a kind soul with one so tainted was only a mystery, but the poor man had yet to discover the fate that lay ahead for him.
Before he could smell the scent of his mate within the cells of his own lands, the Hybrid leader had decided to pay the woman she so very much hated a visit, knowing that there were several things she wanted to tell her enemy for the stunts she had pulled. Leaving the comfort of her shack, and her sleeping mate behind, she trekked to the cells that had been underground, and approached the one the woman had been kept in. The aura of the immortal woman had brought the crying woman to a halt, whose glare made no difference under her tear stained face.
‘What do you want? Are you happy now? Got what you want?’ spat the jailed woman, her hatred still prominent for the woman. Her attraction to the Alpha sure had been real, for he was an attractive man, but perhaps her reason for pursuing him had been the cause of her downfall, and it was a reason why she was now suffering, having no one else left to love in the world.
‘Don’t give me your attitude, this is all on you. If you want to be angry at someone I suggest you look in a mirror and talk’ snapped back the leader, taking a seat right out of the cell, on the cold floor with her legs crossed. The reason behind her visit had still not been clear to the minx, and so she put her differences aside for a brief moment to investigate.
‘Why are you here?’ She posed, clearly not in the mood to talk to the woman. The truth was that Lyra had not been in the mood to talk to anyone, including the very Alpha she had been so fond of. Eliana took a deep breath, calming herself down before she began.
‘When Razaar and I met, he rejected me at first sight. He gave me no explanation, nor his name or title. When he did so, I realised he was the first ever person on this planet to have rejected his mate. A couple of weeks after my parents died in an attack and I was thrusted into leadership without any proper training or notice. Seven years later, I had gotten comfortable with my life, I was leading well, living well, I had my nightly companions, my best friends, all was good for me. Though seven years later Razaar showed up on my lands with his proclaimed mate, asking for shelter for her since he was about to jump into war with the Lycans. I mean, he had no idea I was the leader of Hybrids, or perhaps he wouldn’t have come to me, but regardless when he found out he stuck to his plan. I got no apology, not an ounce of him wished to return to me and I was disrespected blatantly time and time again with his PDA, controlling behaviour and over all toxic aura. His proclaimed mate was a lovely woman, and I had become good friends with her, but when the Alpha came to visit and he realised this, he got jealous that I was not jealous of him or his relationship, and so he started to do things deliberately to get a reaction out of me. He got engaged to his proclaimed mate, and tried to mark me forcefully when he realised I had nightly companions. All that happened, and it ended up attracting the wrong kind of attention, because he eventually dragged me into the middle of his war, and when the Lycan Alpha realised that I was, in fact, his mate, he had two targets to attack. WIthin this whole process a lot happened, his proclaimed mate found out, I was kidn*pped, tortured by the Vermillion, brought back, marked without consent, his proclaimed mate died, we realised the truth about the strongest 6 and we fought a battle where I died and returned from the dead. Now, here we are, finally together after all these years, trying for the love of us to be together to the best of our abilities whilst trying to gather up an army for a war, keep the peace between the Amethyst and the Ivory and avoid that the Vermillion realise our plans.’ Her pause and words had only confused the cunning woman who had yet to realise the message behind her life story, though it had amused her just how rocky their journey had been.
‘Why are you telling me all of this?’ She asked, guilt still not consuming her like it should.
‘Because the last thing Razaar and I need right now is a childish girl trying to stick her foot in between our relationship. My mate and I are doing you a favour by being here, we are saving you from the edge of death, and we do not need your toxic attitude to stop us from things that are far greater than your silly obsession. The Alpha and I have been through enough obstacles in our lives, and we will continue to do so, and my only wonder is why then in middle of all of this does a stupid little girl not understand her limits? Why act upon an obsession you know isn't’ going to work out in the long term?’ The words of the woman had stung Lyra as much as her brother's words had, and more and more every second the sly woman felt herself turn even more heartless than the previous minute.
‘I hate mates, I don’t care for them. I like your mate, and I will have him in my bed whether you like it or not’ she spoke viciously, sticking her head through the barriers of the cage as far as she could. The shackles had stopped her from doing anything that could cause harm, though Eliana did not feel threatened in the slightest by a girl who seriously had a lot of growing up to do.
‘One day when you have your own mate you will realise the pain of losing true love, and that is all I wish for you’ spoke Eliana politely, not regretting her harsh words. So far she had been stern with a lot of people, including most of the leaders of Ivory, though for most she had learnt to forgive and forget, and perhaps even took a bit of sympathy for some of them, including Selina. Though with Lyra there had been a tint of evil she could not digest, and one she would not easily forget or forgive.
It was as if the flame had heard the immortal woman’s request, and decided at that moment, to send the confused Umar down a path to explore where the beautiful scent he smelled was coming from. He was sure that it belonged to his mate, he only wondered where it was she was hiding. As he realised the scent had derived from the cells, a frown took over his face, nevertheless he trekked downstairs to understand why his mate was in a cell.
His focus on the scent had blocked him from listening to the first half of Eliana’s speech, though when the sound of music hit his ears he knew it belonged to his woman. When he unscrambled everything and listened to what his mate was saying exactly, it had shocked him beyond belief.
‘I hate mates, I don’t care for them. I like your mate, and I will have him in my bed whether you like it or not’ the words had hit him like a sword in his chest, and he stopped at the bottom of the stairs, hearing the Hybrid leader terminate her conversation with the evil woman that was his mate. Though before she could leave, he turned the corner and approached slowly, wanting to understand everything that had been going on, and something told him that his mate would not be telling him the truth, only the woman next to her would be.
‘Mate’ whispered Lyra when her eyes connected with his, and she felt herself lose her mind in a world she never imagined visiting before. A smile played on her face, and for a brief moment she forgot all that had been going on around her. She felt a connection with the man she never had with anyone else, and in that moment she realised just how true Eliana’s words were. Gone were the thoughts of the Alpha that seconds ago had lingered in her mind, it was all replaced by the one grand image of her mate, whom she couldn’t peel her eyes off of.
His reaction towards her had not been as she had expected, and instead of keeping his eyes on her, he focused them on the woman outside the cell, who had noticed that her words had an immediate reaction.
‘Why is she here?’ He asked the Hybrid leader, already hurting the prisoners feelings. Eliana paused, glancing at Lyra who decided to speak up before the leader could.
‘There’s been a misunderstanding. My brother, he’s Ozak Ingor, I am Lyra Ingor. He’s locked me up here because this woman’s mate has been attempting to seduce me, but to everyone else it looks like the other way round. I promise I’ll be out of here soon and you and I-’
‘You’re lying to me?’ Interrupted Umar, feeling pain consume him a mere minute after meeting his mate. He certainly had not been expecting this for a first visit.
‘What’s your name, kid?’ Asked Eliana, attempting to clear his doubts and rat out the woman who had made her life hell. She had an opportunity for revenge, and she would be damned if she did not take it.
‘Umar Bedi’ he responded, the hurt evident in his eyes to the Hybrid leader. The woman felt bad for what she was about to do, knowing that more than the heartless Lyra it would affect the poor kid more, though it was something she found necessary to do, knowing he did not deserve a mate as cruel as the one he was given.
‘Where have you been, all this time?’ Posed Lyra before Eliana could destroy everything, and she let the boy respond before she would reveal the truth. Umar peeked at Lyra without a smile, and it was a feeling of pain she had never experienced before.
‘I have been meditating for Earth for the past three years. When I came out I didn’t expect to find my mate straight away, but I certainly did not expect to find her in a cell, lying to me. I heard what you said, about hating mates and taking this woman’s mate. I want the truth, and I think only you can give it to me’ he concluded, turning his attention to the Hybrid leader, who looked at the fearing eyes of Lyra, who begged her with just a look to lie to him, though it was not something the Hybrid leader was going to do, for the sake of the boy and her revenge.
‘You mate has the same element my mate does, and the past couple of days she has been trying to seduce him, by using nature’s connection and entrancing him. She has a fascination for him and it’s so strong that she just threatened to get him into bed with her despite knowing how much my mate and I mean to each other. She’s never wanted a mate, in fact, she’s had several nightly companions too from what I’ve heard. The last thing I want her to do is trick you into believing she is a good person. Take it from me kid, go find yourself a nature mate, because this woman is as evil as evil gets’ she completed, patting Umar on the back sympathetically before taking her leave.
Lyra had been left wide eyed and broken at the revelation, and even though she tried to deny it she knew her mate would know she was lying.
‘I waited my entire life to find my mate, I’m just disappointed that it had to be someone like you. If you say you are the master's sister then I believe that he’s put you in here for good reason, and judging by the words I heard come out of your mouth earlier I know what that lady said was true. You don’t deserve me’ he said, shatting the woman completely, who clung onto him from the spaces in the cell, doing her best to not lose him.
‘Please, Umar, forgive me. I never believed in the concept of mates because my mother gave herself to the flame after my father passed away, she abandoned me. I’m so sorry, I never thought I would ever come to feel this way, but I want to be with you, I want to learn with you and be better for you. Please just give me a chance to prove myself’ she begged through the tears.
‘Your mother gave herself to the flame out of love, if that couldn’t teach you anything about love, then nothing else on this planet will’
