Rachel's POV.
"Stop the car,” I said but she kept on driving, ignoring my request. "Stop the freaking car!" I yelled and this time the car skidded to a stop. I opened the door and put my head out puking by the roadside. I dry heaved for a while after emptying all the contents of my stomach. I stretched out my hand without looking back and she handed me a water bottle. I rinsed my mouth a few times before putting my head back in the car and closing the door.
"You good now?" Paisley asked me and I nodded without opening my eyes.
"Yeah. Thanks." I said and leaned back in the chair.
She started the car and it was silent for a few minutes before she spoke up.
"Sooo... How long do you plan on staying?" She asked.
"Trying to get rid of me already huh? I quirked a brow at her.
"Noo... Why would I do that. Was just asking." She countered and I hummed.
"I guess till my baby is born. You okay with that? I'll pay you though for rent and all that stuff."
"Its fine. You're my best friend, Rach. You don't need to pay me,” She squeezed my hand in silent comfort and I smiled in thanks.
"One last question though,” She chipped in and I hummed in approval while tearing out a gum from its wrapper and putting it in my mouth to reduce the urge to puke.
"Soo… Is he… I mean Drew… Is he uhm okay with this arrangement?" She stuttered her question and my actions froze.
"I don't want to talk about him,” I said in a stone cold closed off voice.
"You have to tell me, honey. Did you guys have an argument?" She asked again.
"No we did not get into any arguments and I. Do. Not. Want. To. Talk. About. It." I said with a finality and turned my head facing out the window.
"Okay... I guess being pregnant has messed with your emotions. Now you're angry and cranky for no reason,” She scoffed.
I rolled my eyes at her and chose not to reply. We got to her house after driving for over an hour from the airport and I was starting to wonder if she lived in the jungle.
"We are here!" She exclaimed and turned off the ignition. I grabbed my purse and got out and she offered to bring in my luggage. I walked up to the door and it suddenly opened and I was faced with a plump middle aged woman smiling so widely at me that I thought her jaw might slack.
"Hello Miss Rachel. I'm Camille and I've heard so much about you. Please come in,” She moved to the side and I smiled in thanks, walking past her into the large all white living area with very impressing interior decor that I knew wasn’t Paisley's.
"Welcome Miss Paisley,” She greeted and I looked back to see her taking my boxes from Paisley and carrying it up the stairs.
"So… You have a housekeeper?" I started and she hummed in reply.
"Okay, seriously whose house is this? Cause I know for sure this isn't your house,” I asked, raising a brow at her and she chuckled.
"This is Gage's house. One of them actually. And this is where you'll be staying. Camille could help you throughout your pregnancy as she's a skilled mid-wife as well as the housekeeper,” She said and I rolled my eyes.
"Why would you bring me to your boyfriend's house. I'm tired of dealing with boyfriends."
"Well you wouldn't have to deal with 'boyfriends' as Gage doesn't really live here and Drew is in shadow Creek. I sold my house after I started dating Gage and we bought this house together. Although it seemed like he bought it as my contribution was like chicken change,” She sighed making me laugh and her frustrations.
"Okay. That's Alright. Where's the nearest hospital from here?" I asked again.
"Why'd you ask?"
"Antenatal. Durr."
"I got you a private doctor and the frequency of his visits will be determined by how far along you are. Since you're still three weeks pregnant he'll come in twice a month. At six months he'll come every week. At eight he'll be here twice a week." She explained to me and I nodded in understanding.
"That's pretty good, Paisely. You didn't have to do all this for me. Thank you. Love you sweets." I said and she replied with "awwn love you more sugar." We hugged and laughed and just goofed around until Camille returned.
"Miss Rachel would you like me to get you anything?" She asked me and directed the same question to Paisley.
"I guess ice-cream. I don't know if its too early for cravings but I've been craving ice-cream for the longest time."
"I knew you'd crave that and its not cause of the baby. You just have a sweet tooth. Anyways, I got you healthy ice cream." Paisley said and asked Camille to get me that. She brought it a few minutes later and I immediately delved into the frozen cup of sweetness. We cuddled up on the couch wrapped up in heaps of blankets binge watching episodes of Friends. Paisley loved the series and she made me watch one episode but I got hooked after one and like a hungry baby I wanted more.
"Where would I be sleeping? I guess I'm worn out,” I asked Paisley a couple of hours later after the fifth yawn escaped my mouth. She chuckled and led me up a curvy flight of stairs to the first floor and a room with double doors. She pushed one of the doors and we go in. My mouth drops open reflexively at the massive space and breath taking decor.
"Uhm… I asked for my room and not the masters bedroom?" I said and she chuckled.
"You're funny. This is your room. The masters bedroom is in the right wing of the house." She explained and I hummed in awe and understanding.
"This is really… huge." I said, mostly to myself as I explored the corners of the room. I went into the huge walk in closet and it was more than half the size of my bedroom back at shadow creek. The bathroom was fit for a king and the bath tub would be a waste without a partner. My mind wandered off to Drew and I shook my head to rid it of the brewing dirty thoughts. Paisley left me in the room a few minutes later and retired to her wing of the house. I took a quick shower and threw on some random purple pajamas and climbed into the soft bed. But in that moment, sleep eluded me.
My mind wandered off yet again to Drew. I wondered what he was doing. Was he looking for me? Was he worried about me? Did he understand my message? Did he realize I was pregnant? Would he really find someone else? Would he forget me? All these questions going about in my head like a love struck teenager. I guess I was love struck—I was just way past the teenage age. I missed him though and I really hoped he didn’t move on from me.
Drew's POV.
I stopped calling. No, I haven't given up on her. I just got tired of leaving voice mails which I have left probably a hundred of them. I still couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that she left, still couldn’t figure out why she'd want to leave me. We were good—I guess. I knew I messed up after our weekend getaway but I thought she forgave me. I thought we already moved passed that hurdle in our relationship. Apparently not. Or was it cause I never told her I loved her? She could come back now. I'll sing it to her for the rest of our lives. Oh God! I sounded lovesick.
"Hey bro how you holding up?" Hayden's head popped in through the open door.
"Hey come in." I said knowing he was waiting for me to ask him in.
"When did you get in?"
"About an hour ago. Geneva told me you've been holed up in your room all day so I decided to check up on you. She said to let you know dinner is in an hour and you should take a bath." He relayed her message which made me smile.
"All noted,” I chuckled rubbing my scruffy overgrown beards.
"So how are you holding up?" He asked again and I sighed.
"It been hard but I guess I'll live."
"Do you think she went on a vacation? Its been months and still no message from her." He asked worriedly.
I scoffed and laughed at the same time, if that was even possible "feels like years to me." I muttered.
Its been about four months since she left and with each passing day I want to punch new deep holes in the wall. I had no idea which hurt more; not knowing where she was, how she was or what she was doing or knowing her dad knew her whereabout and refused to tell me. Lord knows how many times I showed my face at the station asking him to tell me. His replies made me want to punch him over and over again till he bled out but then I wasn’t insane. That'll probably be the stupidest decision I'd ever make for many obvious reasons.
"... Drew hey, Drew." Hayden called out and I returned my attention back to him.
"Sorry, I zoned out. What were you saying?" I asked.
"I figured. Well I was suggesting you get into the bathroom now. Dinner is in thirty and Neva will be pissed if you're not down in time."
"Thank you Hayden,” I patted his back and he squeezed my knee.
"You're welcome, bro." He smiled before leaving the room. I forced my mopey ass up and into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth for the second time today. I couldn’t take a bath without brushing and I already brushed my teeth in the morning. I looked at my scruff and decided not to shave it off. It could go for another week. I took a hot steamy bath which made me feel really better. I put on sweats and a big sweater and went down to the kitchen. Dinner was quite silent as we all ate, no one making any effort to bring up a conversation which I was grateful for. I was in no mood to talk s**t. I finished my food in minutes and like I'd been doing for the past few days, retired to my hole and crawled back into my shell. As usual sleep only came to me when I was thinking about her and that was pretty easy; after months of being plunged into misery by not knowing how she was, she was all I could think about.
I heard hearty laughter as usual coming from Neva and the boys and I wished I could feel a little bit positive to share in their happiness but I felt so gloom and empty.
"Hey baby boy,” Neva smiled, rubbing my back and planting a motherly kiss on the top of my head as I sat at my place. I smiled at her and said hello to my brothers.
"Hey man. How're you holding up?" Javier asked me and I replied with a nod. Brent cleared his throat and I rose a brow at him.
"You have something you want to say to me?" I felt the tension around the table getting thicker.
"I'm sorry." He said lowly.
"What are you sorry for?" I asked even though I knew where the conversation was headed. Ever since he told me Rachel left and I couldn't find her, he felt somewhat responsible for our separation and he had been carrying this guilt with him ever since we figured out she left.
"Uhm... I guess for not telling you Rachel didn't show up to work. I feel like if I had told you earlier on, you probably would've stopped her from leaving,” He said and I hummed but didn’t comment on it. He let out a sad sigh and then the table went silent like a pet gave up the ghost.
"Now now boys. Cheer up! Brenny, I know Drew forgave you a long time ago. He's just unhappy he can't find Rachel and baby boy, you should say something to your brother." Neva hit me on the head with her spoon and shouted but it sounded more like a cute cat meowing making me chuckle.
"Okay okay. Its alright 'Brenny' you're forgiven,” I smirked, using the name Neva called him which he hated.
"f**k off!" He said and I rode a brow. He scratched the back of his head and covered it up with a cough, "Uhm... I meant to say thank you." He muttered and everyone at the table burst into laughter. Neva served us our breakfast and there was a lot of talking, laughing and bickering as we ate. We all finished around the same time and everyone left Neva to clear up as we got ready for the day.
"Hayden, grab your s**t. You're riding with me. I'm taking the car,” I said to him, grabbing my bikers jacket and my car keys from the bowl.
"Uhm... I already told Javier I was riding with hi-" He argued but I cut him off.
"I said you're coming with me. No more arguments on this. We need to have a talk,” I said and he swallowed what I guess was spit as Brent snickered.
"Ooh! I guess I know what this is about. Good luck on that talk Hayden, you'll need it!" He chuckled and ran out of the house as Hayden tried to hit him with a pillow.
"All set?" I asked Hayden as he walked back into the living room and he nodded.
"Bye Neva." I called out to her and her reply of "Bye baby boy!" is heard loud and clear.
"So you wanna tell me what that detention s**t was all about?" I started as I drove on the highway enroute Hayden's school.
"Uhm... I-i kinda g-got into a-" He stuttered.
"No stuttering Hayden,” I warned.
"I kinda uhm got into a fight at school. A boy was trying to harass a girl in tenth grade and was trying to force her to smoke some s**t. I hit him first before I realized they were dating and she was okay with how he treated her but then the fight was on so I had to defend myself." He explained and I hummed.
"Language boy but who won?" I asked.
"I did." He replied in a durr tone.
"That's my little brother." I smirked and held my hand out for a fist pump making him chuckle.
"But no more getting into fights. We have a name to defend. The Callaghan name that dad tried to drag in the mud." I warned and he nodded continously.
"Yeah I know I know. We can't get into trouble so people don't say we are like dad. I know. I get the drill." He said.
"I'm the only one allowed to get in trouble though. I'm a biker. We break the rules." I smirked and he scoffed making me chuckle.
I dropped him off at his school and he waved goodbye before getting out and running to his friends. A girl walked up to him and his smile lit up as he draped his arm around her shoulder as they walked in. He looked back and winked at me making me laugh.
"I guess that's his girl huh." I said to myself as I drove off to the lounge.
"Hey boss." Wolfe and Bear greeted as they walked beside me to my office.
"Whats up." I asked and they asked if I have gotten any news on Rachel, I replied a negative and they sighed. We all walked into my office and they occupied the spaces in front of my desk as I sat behind the desk. We chatted about random things and I knew they were trying to take my mind off it all when Dawg bursts into my office.
"Boss!" He yelled making me glare.
"Who's chasing you this hot afternoon?" I asked.
"Boss... I think I found her." He started.
"Found who?"
"Rachel." He said and my heart started hammering in my chest from the thought of seeing her again.
