Rachel's POV.
I woke up, trying to sit up but the intensity of the ache in my head and the pain in my side made it difficult and I groaned rolling over on my bed. My hand collided with a hard body and I immediately opened my eyes to come face to face with a sleeping Drew. A smile broke out on my lips as I stared at his features within close range. He looked really peaceful and cute in his sleep. His usual cocky, bad boy biker vibe had been replaced by a calm peaceful aura. My hand twitched at my side to reach out and I impulsively put out my hand stroking his cheek, his nose, his hair... his lips. I smoothed out the crease in his forehead and his eyes twitched reflexively making me chuckle.
I got up from the bed slowly to avoid putting pressure on my side before making my way over to his wardrobe in the side of the room, fishing out the smallest pair of sweats and shirt I could find which in actual sense, was really big. I spotted a door on the left and walked over to it twisting the knob and peering in to confirm if its the bathroom. I did my business cautiously to avoid disturbing my resting wound. I put on his clothes that smelled strongly of him. The scent was welcoming and it made me feel secure.
I left the bathroom and the room and went down a flight of stairs following the smell of bacon and eggs till I got to the kitchen. The house was big, way bigger than my house. A middle aged woman stood at the stove humming with her back turned to me. I contemplated calling out or staying quiet till she noticed my presence but either way I bet she'd be startled. I decided to stay quiet so she wouldn’t spill hot oil on her body in fright.
"Oh Jesus! You scared me dear!" She exclaimed, on noticing my presence.
‘Just as I imagined,’ I thought to myself.
"Hello. I'm sorry... I didn't mean to." I apologized but she shushed me.
"Oh shh my dear. Its fine. Come have a seat." She gestured to a chair at the table where she placed a plate of fruit in the centre.
"How long were you standing there dear?"
"Not long. About five minutes." I replied and she smiled at me softly before placing a plate of toast, eggs and strips of bacon in front of me. My stomach growled embarrassingly from the smell of food and I smiled sheepishly.
"Its alright cutie. You need food. You haven't eaten well these past few days." She said and I smiled in thanks and dug into my food.
Halfway into the meal, a young man walked into the room and headed straight for the elderly woman. He hugged her side and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Morning Geneva." He greeted and moved towards the table.
Geneva tapped his butt as he walked away making him chuckle and he occupied the seat opposite where I was sitting. He peered at me closely and I stared back at him. A grin broke out on his face and he stretched his hand out to me.
"Hi I'm Javier Callaghan. Nice to meet you." He smiled and I shook his hand.
"Rachel Davies. Nice to meet you." I smiled nervously under his obvious scrutiny.
"Javier stop drilling holes in her head with your hard gaze." Another boy, a teenager, stepped into the room. Javier scoffed and started eating his food.
"Hey Brothers!" Brent yelled on stepping into the kitchen with a huge smile plastered on his face and both his brothers groaned.
"Not today Brent." The teenage boy warned with a glare, earning an eye roll from him.
Geneva spoke up. "Sit your ass down boys. Do not give our guest a headache with your bickering." And with that all heads in the room turned in my direction as if they momentarily forgot about my existence.
Drew stepped into the room breaking the awkward moment which I was thankful for but at the same time I wished he would go back and put on a shirt. Such distracting view so early in the morning.
"Hey guys." He greeted and they all chorused their good morning.
"Hey love." He bent low to whisper in my ear. "And by the way, my clothes look good on you." He winked and occupied the seat beside mine. I couldn’t control the quick rush of blood to my cheeks and when they felt hot I know they were already redder than normal. Drew chuckled lowly beside me and I discreetly rolled my eyes. The asshole. He knew what effect he had on me.
"I wish you would put on a shirt though,” I started and he quirked an eyebrow.
"Does my being shirtless bother you?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No... not that but... I'd just feel more comfortable if you had on a shirt." I explained.
He feigned a hurt expression and pouted by jutting out his lower lip. "My body isn't attractive ? Do I need to work out more?"
"No! Its quite the opposite actually. You do look good with nice abs and body. Its just..." It was too late before I realize how I openly appreciated his looks and I knew he caught on from the s**t-eating grin on his face.
He smirked proudly. "So you think I look good." And that cockiness was back.
"Oh puh-lease. I just want you to put on a shirt so you could be less... distracting." I retorted before realizing I was still complementing his good looks.
"Oh, I'm distracting. You find me that attractive huh.." He commented and I groaned.
"Drew! Stop!" I whined and he chuckled.
"Sorry love." He apologized and the 'awww's' and claps broke our brief moment. I had totally forgotten we were in the room with others. I blushed furiously and it made Geneva squeal louder.
"Awww! How cute are they." She squealed in delight clapping her hands together.
"Nice to see the all bad biker laugh like a normal human." Javier smirked.
Drew rolled his eyes. "I'm normal. f**k off." He sneered making me chuckle.
"I think Rachel would love to take a look at Drew's baby photos. Wouldn't you?" Brent smirked mischievously and Drew glared at him.
"Back off you fuckers!" He warned and they all laughed.
"Well I'd love to see them." I spoke up.
"Nothing to see love. They're just a bunch of cringe worthy childish photos." Drew commented and I grinned.
"More reason why I'd love to take a look at them."
"Great! I'll bring them out after breakfast." Brent said and Drew rolled his eyes.
'Traitor.' He muttered under his breath but I saw the faint smile on his lips hinting that he wasn't really offended by it. Geneva put a plate in front of Drew, Brent and the teenage boy who I learnt was Hayden and we all ate in silence.
"Aww this is cute. How old were you in this?" I looked up at Drew and he rubbed his chin in thought.
"I guess five." He said and I smiled. We were currently in Drew's bedroom on his bed in a weirdly intimate position of my head placed few inches above his butt and him working on his laptop. I still didn’t know how I ended up in his home but I didn’t question it... until we were seated in his room.
"Drew..." I started and he hummed, not looking up from his work.
"I need to go back home." His action halted and a tense silence filled the air. He moved to sit up and I lifted my head from his back, sitting up and facing him.
"Why? You don't like it here?" He asked with a confused expression.
"Not that... But this isn't my home Drew. I shouldn't be here." I explained and he sighed.
"I know but I want you to be where I am so can protect you." He countered and dread filled me.
"Uncle?"
"Gone.” He replied and I nodded, not pressing for details. For some reason I felt relieved even though I should be remorseful that he lost his life.
"But still you don't need to protect me... We are not together,” I said but immediately wished I didn't from the pained look that momentarily flashed across his face.
"What are we?" He asked quietly and I swallowed the saliva pooling in my mouth. I shook my head refusing to give an answer to that. I really didn’t know the answer to his question.
"We are more than friends Rachel. I know you feel it too and I think I'll go crazy if you reject me one more time." He said and I sighed.
I wrung my hands together nervously, trying to tame the wild emotions moving in Brownian motion within me.
"Then what am I to do Drew? What do you want me to do?" I asked and his reply totally dragged the rug from under my feet.
"Be Mine." Two words with so many meanings to it.
Drew's POV.
"Hey Rachel,” I called out and she looked up from her phone at me.
"Huh."
"We're here." I said and she turned her head to the right looking out of her window probably to confirm.
"Thanks babe." She smiled and gathered her things before climbing out of the car and walking towards to bar entrance.
"Bye love." I called out to her and she smiled over her shoulder.
Yes you heard right guys… Babe. We’ve been going out for the past two weeks and it has been the best weeks of my entire life on earth. She said yes of course to my offer. If she had refused, I guess I would've shot her, then shoot myself since I couldn’t live without her. (Smooth. Lol).
I decided to wait till she was inside before driving off, she looked back and smiled blowing me a kiss before she disappeared from view making me chuckle. She was doing pretty good for someone who was shot about three weeks ago. We've been going to the doctor for her regular check up and cleaning of the wound. To my utter relief, he said the wound was healing nicely with no infection and she could go about her normal activities but he also warned her to stop immediately she started to feel throbbing pain in the wound so as not to open it up and cause complications. I tried to make her rest for one more week but you could pretty much guess how that turned out since I was currently dropping her off at the bar.
I started the car and made a quick drive back home to switch it for my bike. I quickly went into the house to switch keys and grab my helmet before going out front to my bike. Geneva ran out of the house in a rush and I turned to face her. She blushed under my questioning gaze making me chuckle.
"Baby boy could you help take this food to Rachel and Maya. I forgot to pack them lunch." She asked.
"But I just dropped Rachel off." I asked quizzically.
"I know baby boy but I already promised her lunch. Please,” She pleaded and I obviously couldn’t refuse. I took the bags from her and strapped them to my bike. I headed to the bar first to give Rachel the food. I didn’t mind taking food to her, another excuse to see her face for a few more minutes.
"What are you doing here?" She rose an eyebrow at me with a hand on her hips.
I chuckled as I stopped in front of her.
“Hello to you too love. Geneva asked me to give this to you." I handed her the bag and she peered inside.
"Whats in it?"
"Food."
"Aw. She didn't have to do this." She complained but I knew she was pleased by the gesture.
"Well she did. Now off to Maya." I said with a sigh and she chuckled.
"Well go on. Shoo." She waved me away and I dipped my head before she could protest and steal a kiss from her lips. I stood up straight and she turned red. Pecos whistled loudly and clapped his hands and she turned redder and groaned. She pushed me out of the bar and I laughed. I knew he would tease her to no end about what just happened but I hoped the other bar girls got the hint that I'm well… taken.
I dropped off Maya's lunch with the head teacher since they're still in class before I head to the lounge.
"Hey Boss." Bear greeted as I stepped into the lounge and I smile.
"Hey Eric. Nice to have you back man. How was Hawaii?" I asked with a smirk. He went on a vacation to celebrate his honeymoon after being married for three years.
"It was good just going to relax but it was even better with Michelle there." He smiled and I noticed a slight tint of red in his cheeks which meant he probably remembered all the dirty things they did but I decided not to question it. I chuckled and he scoffed before walking off stating he didn’t know what was funny.
I got to my office and walked in, afterwards unlocking the door. I shut it behind me only to jump back in fear at the being pacing around the room like a wild animal locked in a cage.
"What the f**k man!" I exclaimed but he kept on pacing. I ignored him and went to my seat before opening my laptop to work a little. Twenty minutes later, I looked up to find Wolfe still pacing the length of the room.
"Are you really going to stay mute or you're ready to tell me what the f**k is wrong with you?" I quirked an eyebrow at his panicked state.
He stopped pacing and turned to face me."White or yellow?" He blurted out and my forehead creased in confusion.
"Huh... What is that?"
"White or yellow man." He repeated.
"What the hell is white or yellow?"
"For a baby's room… would you prefer white or yellow?" He asked and I face palmed, groaning.
"The f**k man. Is that why you've been pacing my office like you killed a cop?" I asked and he nodded, coming to sit in front of me.
"Denise and I… mostly Denise coz she's forcing me to do these things. Anyway she started to shop for baby things. I was like the baby isn't even old yet. And she replied that the baby was five months already and I went dumb immediately. Like dude! Her stomach is f*****g flat. Where the f**k is my baby?! I asked her this and she gave me a deadly glare which by the way I never want to get from her ever again. She told me I was blaming her and calling our baby malnourished. Like what the hell?!" He pauses and I didn’t miss his quick intake of air before he continued.
"She then dropped two colours and told me to choose. I said I don't know anything about colours and she said if I don't choose she'll run away and raise our baby alone." He concluded with fear written all over his face. I tried—the key word being try—to hold my s**t together and put on a brave manly face for him but f**k that. I burst into hard stomach aching laughter, not able to control myself.
"Sorry man but that is f****d up." I said and he sighed.
"I know, I know. I don't understand anything anymore. How the hell do these women hide the babies in their stomachs that we don't see the bump, the next thing we know they're in labor. I thought I had a few months to prepare myself but man, peanut is coming real soon." He rubbed his hands on his face, expressing frustration.
"Peanut?" I quirked a brow and he blushed.
"That's not the point. White or yellow man?" He asked again and I still didn’t get this.
"But you don't know the gender. Why do you need a colour?" I asked puzzled.
"They're neutral colours Drew. They go for both genders. She doesn't want to be gender specific." He explained and I nodded in understanding.
"I guess I'd pick yellow. White would get dirty real quick." I said and he smiled.
"Thanks Boss. You're the best." He got up from the chair immediately and exited the office probably to go call Michelle.
My mind wandered off to Rachel and the thought of her never failed to bring a smile to my face. I was not one for commitment and I hated the thought of being tied down to one woman. I guess I was my father's son after all. He fathered children from different women. But the thought of marrying Rachel didn’t hurt at all and the thought of her carrying our baby elicited a surge of happiness within me. Picturing her with the growing bump, craving all weird things and waddling when it was near full term made me chuckle. I only hoped she didn’t get all those pregnancy hormones with mixed emotions. The cravings and the waddling I couldn’t deal with but I didn’t think I could handle the hormones considering how Wolfe was doing.
