Rachel's POV.
"Mummy Darren told me to go to hell!" Doris screamed bursting into our bedroom.
"Hey shush... you'll wake papa up,” I said to her and she pouted with crossed arms. I slowly and gently detached myself from Drew's vine like hold and he whined in his sleep, trying to tighten his arms round my stomach making me chuckle. When it comes to throwing tantrums, Doris was an expert and she just wouldn't budge till she has had her way. Pretty sure she was being a pest to Darren that's why he told her to get out. I left the room quietly shutting the door behind me and walking down the hall to Darren's room with Doris on my tail. I knocked twice before his grumbling voice replied with a come in. I walked in to find Darren rolled up in the sheets with his pillow over his head.
"Hey honey. Why'd you wish your sister to hell?" I asked in a calm voice.
"She was being a pain in the ass." He grumbled and I rose a brow at him.
"Language young man." I scolded and he mumbled a sorry.
"Happy birthday my babies!" I hugged the both of them and they beam with excitement... or maybe just Doris was excited. Darren looked uninterested in the idea of birthday.
"Thanks mum." Doris beamed "so do I get my gift now?" She pouted making me laugh at her cute little pointy mouth.
"No, Dee. All your gifts are at the big house in Raven hill. That's where we'll be having the party." I reminded her and her mouth formed an 'o'.
"Happy birthday my babies."
I looked up to see Drew smiling with sleepy eyes. Doris ran to him and jumped on him making him grunt and he stumbled a little before regaining his footing. He kissed her cheeks and she giggled like a kindergartner even though she just turned eight. I looked at Darren to find him staring blankly at the wall with a scowl on his face.
"Darren baby you alright?" I asked worriedly and he shrugged in reply. I stared at him not saying a word. He had been really detached lately and I tried talking to him a couple of times but he still wouldn't tell me anything. He always wanted to keep to himself and he locks himself up in his room for hours, only coming out when it's time to eat.
"Hey, love could you take Doris downstairs and start baking, Darren and I will meet you guys in the kitchen,” Drew ordered, his eyes solely focused on Darren who was still staring at the blue wall with the scowl still plastered on his face. I kissed my baby on his forehead and patted his arm before standing up from the bed and leaving his room. Drew and I shared a good morning kiss before I walked out of the room with Doris skipping beside me.
"Hey, Dee. You ready to bake up a storm today?" I smiled and she looked up at me in confusion.
"Uhm I don't know about baking up a storm but I know we're going make the best and biggest princess cake in the whole world!" She exclaimed and clapped her hands. She really behaved like a kindergartner. My kids were really not normal; Doris acts so little for her age while Darren acts way older than his age.
"Well let's get to work, little Missy. We have to get everything ready before your birthday party."
Drew's POV.
"Hey big boy you alright?" I asked as I sat at the edge of Darren's bed and he drew his legs up to his chest hugging them to himself. He doesn't reply my question and just kept on staring at the wall opposite him.
"Xavier?" I called and he looked up slightly surprised. He should be. I never call him by his other name except it's awfully serious which means trouble most of the time.
"I asked you a question young man." I quirked a brow at him and he sighed.
"I'm okay, Dad." He replied and from that answer I knew he was not.
"Okay what is it? Talk to me, I guess I can help you with whatever is bothering you. I'll try my best to help. Promise." I held out my pinky and disgust was written all over his face.
"Eww, Dad. You don't do that s**t,” he said and light giggles followed making me smile.
I pulled my hand back to my side. “No I don't and I have no idea why I did that. And language young man."
"Uhm Dad... what if... Never mind it's just a stupid question." He shrugged.
"No it's not. Go on kid."
"Uhm what if you love someone older than you?" He asked and I hummed, trying hard to conceal my surprise at his question. I knew kids already had crushes from first grade but I didn’t expect to be having girl conversations with my son at eight.
"I'm pretty much older than your mum and I love her with all of my being so that question is definitely not for me."
"Dad!" He facepalms.
"What?!"
"The question was for me. I was asking for your opinion. Now I see why mom said you're slow." He mumbled the last part but I heard it loud and clear.
"Oh really... did she now?" I smirked and made a mental note to make her pay—in the bedroom—for telling our kids about how slow my brain is.
"Okay, kid. I'm guessing you like someone older than you—I hope I know who she is. It's a good thing to like someone but you're just eight, Darr. You don't know what love is yet. At your age boys have lots of crushes, at least I did when I was I in grade school." I tried to advice him but I guess my feeble attempt pissed him off.
"I love her dad. Never mind." He shrugged and tried to get up from the bed but I forced his rebellious ass back down.
"We're not done here. You could love her quite alright but all I'm saying is at your age you wouldn't really know if its love so why not wait it out and as you grow older you see if it grows too. How about that?" I asked.
"I guess that's good enough."
"Happy birthday, son. Happy eight! Brush your teeth and come down for breakfast,” I said hugging him and he hugged me back.
"Thanks Dad. I love you."
"Love you too son."
Third Person POV
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Darren happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Doris, happy birthday to you!" The crowd sang the usual birthday song at the top of their voices with all eyes focused on the beaming twins in the centre of the room. Its a themed birthday party this year and its a wonder how Drew and Rachel managed to fit a captain America and Barbie Decor in one room without them conflicting each other. It was definitely a wise decision to demarcate the play area for boys and girls.
"Happy birthday my babies!" Rachel exclaimed clapping excitedly. "Blow out your candles honey!" She urged the duo and they both closed their eyes to wish, by the time they opened them, the candles were blown out.
"Happy birthday, kids,” Drew smiled at the pair with so much love shining in his eyes.
"Daddy can I cut my cake now?!" Doris screamed making Drew wince.
"No, honey. Mummy will do that but I guess we could open a few toys now."
"Yesss!" She shouted and zoomed off to the gift table with her girl friends running behind her. She sat on her very pink princess chair and all her friends surrounded her to take peeks at the gifts she had received. They’ll be there for a while considering the number of towners that had showed up and some bearing more than one gift bag. Darren followed behind with dragging feet and a forlorn look. He sat at the other end of the table and stared straight ahead with his signature scowl on his face as no one seemed to notice him but that was where he was mistaken. Drew followed his gaze and his eyes widened in shock. He rushed off to Rachel's side, dragging her from her group of friends.
"What?! Why would you do that?" She pouted.
"I wanted to talk to you."
"... or you wanted to have s*x at our kids party. But we are so not doing that-"
"What the- Rachel why would you even think that. Except if it's a fantasy of yours,”!Drew smirked and her cheeks turned a bright shade of red.
"Shut up!" She hit his arm playfully.
"So concerning what I wanted to talk about..."
"I think Darren is in love with Carrie." Drew said and Rachel's expression mirrored Drew’s.
"Holy shit."
Now that's a disaster waiting to happen... But who is Carrie?
