Rachel's POV.
"So how did you find me?" I asked Drew without meeting his gaze as he drove the short distance to my new home.
"Dawg… He gave me your address,” He answered and I hummed in reply to which a very awkward silence ensued afterwards.
"So how far along are you?" He broke the silence.
"I'm in my 2nd trimester… 20 weeks, about four months." I explained and he hummed.
"We were together then… How could you do this to us. f**k! We were on our vaca- hold on…" He broke off mid sentence and his brows were scrunched up as if he was analyzing a very difficult puzzle and I stared at his face as it morphed into different emotions, staying silent and not interrupting his train of thoughts. His face soon lit up with realization and at this time we were parked outside the house.
"Oh s**t! s**t! We were on our vacation. The first time we- Oh s**t, you're carrying my kid." He said with panic written all over his handsome face.
I resisted the urge to chuckle as it was supposed to be a serious conversation.
"Yes, Drew. I'm carrying our baby. I tried to tell you but then I figured you wouldn’t want it because you regretted that we slept together which was why I had to leave shadow creek." I tried to explain but then I knew I was screwed when his expression morphed into that of anger.
"You didn't try enough, Rachel. You didn't try enough. You tried to keep my baby from me… you ran away to keep this big secret from me. You could've told me." He said in a deathly calm voice and I wish he'd just yell instead.
"You didn't cherish that night, Drew. You made that clear after the getaway. I found out the following week that I was pregnant. I panicked. What was I to do? I had to leave to protect my baby." I countered and he scoffed.
"Protect your baby? Our baby, Rachel. And protect it from who… me? You think I'd have told you to abort it? You didn't even give me a f*****g chance Rachel. You didn't even try." He yelled this time and I cringed feeling the guilt creeping into my heart. Oh well, I wasn’t about to let him guilt trip me.
"Well you left me with no freaking choice Drew! You didn't love me and you made that clear after the getaway. You may have fancied me and cared about me but you didn't love me. I thought I could live with that even though it hurt like hell. I thought my love for you could sustain our relationship but when I found out I was pregnant, I had to decide between you or my baby. And I couldn't bear it if you rejected my baby so I had to leave." I yelled and at that point, we were both yelling.
"Our baby, Rachel. Our baby! And I love you alright! I f*****g love you! And you just had to disappear for months without waiting to hear me say it! Damn all of this!" He yelled and got out of the car, pacing the driveway. The force with which the door closed made me jump in my seat and I swallowed the saliva in my mouth.
I climbed out of the car and round to where he's standing. I tried talking to him when Paisley decided it was the best f*****g time to pop up.
"Oh hey, Drew! You guys wanna come in. Dinner will soon be—“ She called out from the door.
Drew and I both yelled back in unison "Not the best f*****g time, Paisley."
"Oops… Sorry!" She replied and disappeared from sight.
"Look, can we both calm down and talk about this?" I started and Drew stopped pacing but stood with his back to me.
"Why would you do this to me? Why would you leave me? It was hell without you, Rachel. Not knowing where you were or what you were doing was sickening and frustrating." He said with a broken voice and the tears gathered in my eyes but I willed them back.
"I'm sorry I had to leave the way I did. I thought you didn't love me and I feared you wouldn't want the baby and I couldn't bear any more rejection so I figured the best option was to leave. I'm sorry." I explained
and I heard his heavy sigh.
"Never again love. Never again." He said and I nodded with a faint smile. I grabbed my purse from the car and we both went into the house to find everyone in the kitchen including Gage.
"Oh hi, Gage. I had no idea you would be returning today. Paisley didn't tell me." I said, throwing a heated glare her way and she huffed making Gage chuckle.
"Hey Rach. I was supposed to get in next week but I had my schedule cleared up so I returned early. It was meant to be a surprise, only Camille knew about this,” He explained and I hummed.
"Uhm… Thanks for letting me borrow your car." Drew said handing over the keys to Gage and he caught them with a grin.
"Its all good, man. Hope my baby did you some good,” he smirked making Drew laugh.
"She sure is sleek,” He replied and I rolled my eyes at the conversation about cars. Camille brought in the last dish bowl setting it on the centre of the table and set to filling up our plates with food. I went about three rounds before I was finally full and I looked to my side to find Drew staring at me amusedly.
"What?" I asked with a piece of chicken bone sticking out of my mouth.
"The baby making you eat so much, huh?" He chuckled making me blush. I rubbed my full bloated stomach in satisfaction as I belched lowly and yawned a couple of times before I decided it was time to retire for the night.
"Uhm… where would I be sleeping?" Drew asked and my eyes met Camille’s who smiled at us, mischievously if I might add.
"Oh dear. I already took your bags up to Rachel's room. You both could share the room. There's more than enough space." She replied and I groaned.
"Camille!"
"What honey!" She chuckled and I huffed, getting up from the table with Drew on my tail. We went up the stairs to my wing of the house and I pushed one of the double doors open. Drew and I both stepped into the room and he looked around the room examining all the corners as I went into the bathroom.
"Nice room you have here." He muttered.
"I want to take a shower first. You could go after me." I said to him.
"Or we could go together." He smirked and I rolled my eyes at his cockiness. I shut the door in his face and put the lock in place and I could hear his chuckles on the other side of the door. Well I wasn’t about to get baby number two inside me; is that even possible?
I took off my sweaty clothes putting it into the chute that travelled straight to the laundry. I took a hot shower, cooling off with cold water before I stepped out. I wrapped a clean towel on my body and went to unlatch the lock.
"You could come in now." I said to Drew who walked into the fairly big bathroom.
"Nice jacuzzi." He commented with a grin staring at the empty white tub in the side.
"Go take a shower you pervert!" I chuckled as I stood at the counter to brush my teeth. He took off his clothes in front of me—or rather behind me and I was forced to stare at his muscular build through the mirror. His slow movements held my gaze and I didn’t blink like I'd been hypnotized.
He stepped over his clothes and walked into the bathroom butt naked and I was brought back to earth.
"Such a tease." I muttered under my breath.
Now we were both under the covers staring up at the ceiling, aware that the other was wide awake but silent. I focused on the energy buzzing in the atmosphere and I gazed at the beautiful moon and the light illuminating the room through the window. I was lost in my own thoughts until Drew decided to speak up.
"Hey, love. You awake?" He asked even though he knew the answer to that already.
"Hmm." I hummed in reply.
"Let's return home." Were his next words and I stayed silent. I knew no matter how carefully I chose my words, this topic would stir up another argument. I'd gotten so comfortable here and it already felt like a new home to me.
Drew's POV.
"Thank you for doing this." I said to Rachel for what I guessed was the tenth time today as we packed up our stuff to leave for the airport in few hours.
"Whatever." She replied rolling her green eyes. I chuckled but didn’t utter any word so as to not piss her off any further. My mind wandered to how hard it was to get her to agree to return to shadow creek.
"Hey love you awake?" I had asked knowing fully well we were both unable to sleep and just laying still and mute at the opposite ends of the bed. A hum was her reply which was my cue to go further with my question.
"Let's return home." I said and it went downhill from there.
She stayed silent not uttering a word and not replying my question. I waited patiently for her to do the much needed sorting of her thoughts to give me an affirmative reply but I would be lying if her answer didn't shock the lashes from my lids.
"No." She muttered lowly that I almost didn't hear. In that moment, I sat up straight on the bed and turned to face her. I tried to find her face in the dark, wanting to study her expression, to decipher what was running through her mind but all of that was impossible with the only light evident being just a shadow of moonlight.
"Why?" I asked and another brief moment of silence; more thoughts sorting.
"I don't know. I guess I'd love to have my baby here. Just in a new environment."
"I get that but shadow creek is home love."
"Well it may be home to you but it isn't to me. I only moved back to stay with my dad. It was home for so many years but now the sad memories have overshadowed the good ones. I finally found a place here and I don't want to leave." She said "You could stay here with me." She added and I couldn't help but think of how selfish her suggestion sounded.
"But you know I help keep Shadow Creek in order. I'm the leader of the bikers club Rachel, I can't just up and leave and move across the damn world." I countered and she sat up abruptly. She turned on the side lamp and I could see her face in the now fairly lit room.
"Oh really! Sorry I momentarily forgot about your leadership position, Mr Callaghan." She jeered and my brows rose in confusion at her evident sarcasm not quite understanding the retorts.
"Why are you all saucy?" I had asked.
"Why can't you choose between me and your stupid bikers club?" She retorted.
"Okay now lets chill out. Shadow creek is my life Rachel…" I trailed off when I noticed her 'oh really' expression.
"Don't get me wrong, you are my life too and as much as I love you and I love you even more now with our baby, I just wish you wouldn't ask me to choose between you and shadow creek. My family is there waiting for me to return with you, my brothers are there waiting for my next order, the families of my brothers are under my protection and care, how then could I leave all of that for this?" I asked her and she turned away from me not uttering another word.
"Goodnight… or rather morning." Was all she said and the next thing I knew, her back was turned to me and the lamp was switched off. I tried reaching out by calling her name but she failed to reply. I decided to leave the matter to rest and get some sleep.
The next day was worse that I wondered if I asked her to move back to hell with me. She ignored me the whole day and gave me an attitude. Camille told me it was all because of her baby hormones. Yeah… I guess it could be that.
I called Wolfe for advice and he directed me to his wife, who bless her soul, gave me a somewhat helpful advice but stating after—it could either work or s**t could hit the roof. I decided to take the bull by its horn literally and I told her that night.
"Hey love. I did some thinking today and uhm… I finally made my decision. I love you and our baby more than life but I can't help but think of my family back in shadow creek. So if you wanna stay here I respect that, but I'll have to return to shadow creek without you." I had said and she blurted out her answer that she was going to return with me followed by the dreaded tears and watery snot and I had held her through it all and the whole night.
Well the part she didn’t know and probably will never know is I wasn't gonna leave her ass here. My plan C was to drag her back to Shadow creek with me.
"Are you all packed?" I saw her mouth move but I missed her question.
"Uhm could you repeat that?"
"Are you all packed?!"she yelled.
"Jeez.… why are you shouting and yes, I'm all set." I sighed. Now I understood why Wolfe was always on edge around his wife when she was pregnant. f**k these damn hormones.
"Good lets go." She said calmly and walked out of the room like she didn't just try to scream my ear off. I followed closely behind her with our bags and headed outside, putting all our luggage in the trunk of Gage's truck. They offered to take us to the airport to save cost and also be there with us till we took off. Less than an hour later, we were on the road enroute the airport. Rachel fell asleep already in the car with her head resting on my shoulder. I woke her up when we got to the airport and we took her luggage as she had more stuff to go back with. We hung around the airport area for about an hour while my pilot got everything set up.
"Thank you so much for taking me in. I'll miss you so much." Rachel smiled as she hugged Paisley and I noticed the unshed tears in her eyes.
"Thank you for taking her in. I promise she won't have to run away again." I smirked as Paisley chuckled and Rachel scoffed. I shook hands with Gage, hugging Paisley before grabbing our carry-on bags and Rachel and I went out to the tarmac to board my plane. Few hours after take-off and sleeping beauty resumed her hobby of sleeping. Rachel slept throughout the whole flight which was amusing.
I already informed Wolfe on our time of landing and he was waiting with Bear at the tarmac in Shadow creek. It was early in the morning here in shadow creek and it was still dark out. The boys helped move our things into the boot of my car and with an agreement to meet later in the day at the lounge we all went our separate ways.
The drive home wasn’t a long one thankfully. We both went in, leaving the boxes in the trunk and straight up to my room to sleep for a few hours before dawn. I f*****g crazed sleep.
"Hey love. We need to get you registered for ante-natal here. I'll take you to the clinic after breakfast. You could go visit your dad after while I'm at the lounge." I said and she nodded.
"Sounds good."
"Welcome back you guys. I missed you, bro!" Hayden screamed with a huge smile plastered on his face.
"Yeah... Thanks for coming back Rach. My brother was as gloomy as a rainy day without you." Brents grinned and I heard Rachel's low chuckles.
I rolled my eyes at his exaggerated comment "whatever."
I already called to inform the guys and Geneva that Rachel was pregnant. Their strong use of cuss words was enough to express their shock, so it was no surprise to them seeing her bloated belly at breakfast this morning.
Now we were currently at the damn clinic waiting for a doctor. My family doctor recommended a good female gynaecologist who works at the clinic as Rachel requested that her doctor be a female. We had been sitting out here for close to an hour with the ladies in white, some in blue walking swiftly past us and telling us politely to either chill or get the f**k out. I knew Rachel was bored out of her mind from the blank expression on her face. I mean, if I could feel this great urge to accost a nurse and shake some answers out of her, I wondered how she must be feeling.
"Mr Callaghan, the doctor will see you now." The nurse at the reception smiled at us and pointed us in the direction of the office.
"I know the f*****g door." I muttered under my breath and Rachel chuckles.
"Hello Mr Callaghan, Miss Davies." She stood up from her seat and offered her hand for a shake. She gestured to the seats opposite her desk and we both sat down, Rachel first. Rachel and Doctor Safiya conversed for the most part while I did nothing but sit still. I knew next to nothing about whatever the conversation was about.
"Mr Callaghan…" The doctor called for my attention and I looked up at her face "You could both attend classes for expecting couples so you know how to help her if the need arises. Its also best for the baby if both parents actively participate in its birth." She explained and I hummed.
"So do you know the s*x of your baby?" She asked and I looked at Rachel.
"No, I don't. I really didn't care whether its a boy or a girl but I guess I'd love to know now." Rachel smiled at me and I turned back to face the doctor.
"Okay, honey. You could go into the next room and lay flat on the bed." She ordered, her comments directed at Rachel. We went into the room and Rachel did as she was ordered laying on the bed and exposing her bloated belly. Dr. Safiya comes in a while later in a coat and disposable gloves on. She squirted a jelly on her belly rubbing it round. She drew the machine closer to the bed and moved an object over Rachel's belly in random circles till one blurry tiny figure popped up on the screen.
"Ah! This one's a boy." She smiled pointing at what she called his pee pee but I didn’t see how that could be his p***s. She didn’t stop and kept moving the thing making my brows pull together in confusion.
"What do you mean 'this one'? I blurted out my question. Wasn’t there supposed to be only one kid?
"Oh yes, dear. There's another and its a…girl." She added with a smile and the look of shock on Rachel's face mirrored mine.
"What?!" We both exclaimed in unison and the doctor chuckled.
"You're having twins. A boy and a girl." She confirmed and the blood drained from Rachel's face as she turned pale.
"How the hell did they miss two kids?!" I asked nobody in particular. Rachel told me her doctor in New Zealand told her she was having one child and she had even given me a sonogram of our baby.
"That is very possible Mr Callaghan. Your other baby is really tiny so it would have been possible for the scan to miss her. Miss Davies you need to rest up and eat a lot for your babies to grow normally." The doctor advised but at that point I was completely zoned out.
I knew no f*****g thing about one kid and now I was having two at once!
