Chapter 6Kreusa turned away from the burning house. ‘Julos!’ she cried. ‘Ankhises?’ Kaieta grabbed her by the shoulder, pointed to a familiar house at the other end of the street, not too far from the bell tower. ‘In there, my lady.’ Kreusa fought the dizziness as they ran downhill. Kaieta still held her by the wrist, and she was grateful. The front door opened a crack, an eye peeking out. ‘Mnestheos.’ ‘Kreusa, in here, quick.’ Ankhises’s old friend Mnestheos threw open the door, ushered her and Kaieta inside. He bolted it behind them. ‘Mama!’ Julos bounded up to her, hugged her legs. ‘You hurt?’ Her head still throbbed and eels writhed in her belly. ‘Not bad.’ ‘Come, you must rest.’ Mnestheos led her into the dining chamber, offered her a couch. She sat, but refused to recline. J
