Survival

I sprinted through the main door and quickly glanced around to find something to block the door. I saw a filing cabinet and ran to get on the other side and started shoving it. It wasn't moving, I started to panic. Suddenly an arm appeared in front of my face and the cabinet started moving. I fell as the cabinet was shoved hard and fast in front of the door. I rolled onto my side and pushed myself up. I looked to see who had saved me and my eyes widened. "Uh-oh", I barely said, it was a lycanthrope. I had successfully beat a few lycanthrope in training scenarios, but this guy was intimidating. I didn't think I could take him, especially since Alan had been carrying all the guns to prevent usage against zombies. The more noise made, the more zombies came. I pushed up and got to my feet. I stepped back into a fighting stance, glancing around for another way out. "Get up the stairs," the lycanthrope said, "unless you feel like being eaten alive." "But...you'll just kill me." I whispered. He glanced back at me and I gasped, he was handsome. The lycanthrope had brilliant ice blue eyes surrounded by long dark lashes. In the old world he could have been a model, although he was likely less than 6' tall. He had dark crew cut hair and appeared as though he worked out every day. He turned toward the stairs and shrugged, stating, "Go ahead and die then." Multiple zombies hit the door and shifted the file cabinet back an inch. I scrambled up the stairs behind the lycanthrope, again hoping it wasn't a deadly mistake. "You know if they can't see you, they will ramble away," the lycanthrope stated when I got the the first landing. "Why are you helping me?" I blurted out. It wasn't the most brilliant thing I could say, but I wanted to know. "We're living, the living need to stick together." "Oh...well....thank you," I replied. " I'm Selene." "Nathaniel, and no problem." He said with a grin. "Can I look out the window safely?" I inquired. "Sure, they don't tend to look up and if they do, they'll forget about you by the time they get near enough." "Thank you." I looked out the window and tried to spot Diana. All I could see was a swarm of zombies starting to move away from a bulk in the road. It was Diana, everyone else was dead. "Oh no," I said as I started sobbing. "They're all dead..." I collapsed into a ball sobbing. I felt arms go around me and pull me into a warm, solid lap. I curled into Nathaniel, his comfort and warmth was what I needed in that moment. I awoke laying on a soft surface with a solid heat behind me. It was dark, I immediately stiffened, it took me a few seconds to remember that I had cried myself to sleep in Nathaniel's arms. He must have carried me to wherever we were. I heard his soft, even breathing and figured he was asleep, which likely meant we were in a safe place. I relaxed back into Nathaniel's warmth knowing I shouldn't, but enjoing the sensation. The compound wasn't worried about my group yet, the recon group would often be out for two to three days. While laying there Nathaniel put his arm around my waist, pulling me in tighter against him and nozzling his nose into my neck. I felt his long hardness against my ass and felt the rumbling growl through his chest. My pulse sped up out of both excitment and fear, my body didn't know what it was wanting. I closed my eyes enjoying the sensation. "Hmm, you smell and feel so good." Nathaniel whispered into my neck making me shiver and squirm against him. He suddenly released me and rolled away. My eyes popped open and I quickly sat up. I needed to start working back to the compound, staying with a lycanthrope was dangerous. I had been incredibly wreckless. As soon as the sun rose I was going to start heading back home, Brian had to be worried about me. "The sun should rise in about an hour, you should be safe to leave then," rumbled Nathaniel. "I'm sure your boyfriend is missing you." "I don't have a boyfriend, just my brother who will be worrying about me." I said defensively. I don't know why I was giving an explanation. "You are different than I thought you'd be" Nathaniel turned on me with a puzzled expression, "What?" "Uhm....well I've been trained that all lycanthropes were...uh...agressive." I finished quietly. Nathaniel let out a soft laugh as he looked away, shaking his head. "Well I was raised to think all humans would kill me on site for being a lycanthrope. We all have good and bad people, breeds don't change that." "I'm sorry, that was rude of me...I shouldn't have said anything." "It's fine, you're young and curious," he responded. "Excuse me? I'm not that young. I'm 18," I said defensively. Nathaniel scoffed, "you are young. you were barely a teen when everything were to hell. I bet you don't really remember before." He wasn't wrong, I was used to this life of living in perpetual fear of the zombies, vampires, and werewolves. I sighed, "You're not wrong, this is what I have grown accustomed to. But my life has been more like the old ways inside the compound that whatever you're doing out here." "And you probably still have all your family too." He said with mild resentment in his voice. "Actually, my brother and I were the only two to survive. How much longer till sunrise, I need to plan my return to the colony." "One hour, good luck. If you survive and come back out, find me," Nathaniel said as he walked off to another room. I gathered my weapons and looked out the second floor windows to get my bearing. I saw a few slow zombies and good coverage towards the direction of the compound. I could see the sun just over the horizon. I glanced towards the doorway where Nathaniel had exited and headed towards the stairs. Now was as good of time as any to leave. The filing cabinet had been pushed far enough away from the door that I was able to open it and slide through with little difficulty. A slow zombie started to amble towards me, I pulled out my sword and sliced the zombies head off. I turned and quietly started heading towards the direction of the compound. As I walked down the sidewalk I noticed movement ahead of me, it wasn't a zombie or a lycanthrope...it was a vampire. My blood turned to ice, I had never managed to best a vampire in the scenarios.
