Carter sat in his office with his dog at his feet. He sighed as he tapped his pen on his desk and zoned out on his hordes of emails. He was so tired of answering them. The clock in his office incessantly ticked, and he wanted to smash it to the ground to make it stop. It had never annoyed him or been so loud. He missed Ariana's laugh and her smiling face. He missed her being around him all the time. She hadn't even been gone that long and he already longed for her to be sitting in front of him in the lonely chair.
Lucky whined beside him as she yawned and settled back down. He peered down at her and reached down to pet her back. "I know, girl. I miss her too."
