release them

Kye POV Brayden had lost his s**t. I get the guy saw his parents killed right before him, but he was an alpha, and he was acting like ... a b***h. He was crying nonstop and thinking and acting irrationally. Worse was the pack was enabling his behavior, my father included. The only one that had attempted to reason with was Malaysia, and she had gotten a mouth full. Connor showed up first and was ambushed. Watching him being taken down made me realize how real things must have been the night Mr. And Mrs. Martin died. Connor gave them hell. He had no idea what was going on, so the appearance of betrayal on his face was too much for me. I always looked up to him and he trained me. He kept looking at me for answers. I tried going to Brayden and explaining this was a bad idea, and to let the council handle it, but he refused, "Brayden you're not thinking this through," My father shot me a look, and I glared back at him. "Our alpha is dead!" he roared. I never thought I'd have to step to my father, but I did, "Two wrongs!" I shouted, "Malaysia and Brayden should have been honest from the beginning and this would never have happened. Instead of putting the truth out there, you tried to hide it and why was that? So he could continue to have both of them?" I threw my hands up, "now everyone is dead, and you just challenged your Chosen mate to a freaking duel!" Brayden was beating on his chest like a madman as he yelled, "She challenged me! She killed my parents, now she will pay, she will feel my pain ten times over," he growled as spittle went everywhere. I shook my head. There was no reasoning with him, so I just walked away. He was going to get the whole damn pack killed. I sighed, now I had no regrets about what I was about to do, I called Jess back, "Don't come here!" "He has my brothers!" She screamed into the phone and my heart ached for her because I knew she was suffering, "Jess, do you trust me?" "Yes but-" "No, but's don't come here. Call Alpha Darren and Reid's packhouse and tell them that your brothers are being held against their will. They will take it from there. Brayden does not want a war and if he does not hand them over, he will have both Alphas on his ass. He will release them." I was sure of that, I could hear her hesitation, and finally, she said, "Okay Kye," I wanted to say so much more, but I had little time. "Jessie, I made you a promise, trust me, I love you." She said nothing and that was okay with me. I understood she was going through hell. "Kye, you are all I have left," she said, "I'm not going anywhere baby. Now listen, I think you should call anyone from the council who is a friend and have them escort you in." I said to her, "I killed an alpha, Kye!" She said in a panicked tone. "You were not in your right mind. Besides, everyone knows dragons' tempers are even worse than wolves. How would you know Nova would surface at that moment? You felt cornered and she protected you." I assured her, "And who will attest to that?" "I will!" I said, "And you will lose your position and everything you worked for," she pointed out, "all because of me." "Damnit Jess, don't you know I have loved you since the first day I saw you? I didn't know how to tell you. Listen, if doing what is right costs me my position, then so be it. I will not watch you get thrown under the bus." I said to her, "now please turn yourself in." I heard her sigh, and finally, she said, "And when this is over, and if I still have my life?" She asked me, "Then I will go through hell and high water to be with you. You have my word," I said to her, "Kye," she whispered into the phone, "It's okay you don't have to say anything right now, go do as I said." I coaxed her, Even though I hated to hear her hang up, it had to be done, Walking back toward what used to be our pack-house with renewed purpose. If Jess did as I told her to, this would be over soon. I just had to try and get Brayden to see that releasing them was best for the pack. As soon as I neared the pack-house I could hear the pack chanting, kill kill kill! They were out for blood. I was the only one that remembered these men were once part of this pack. Dylan was dragged front and center, "She killed our alpha. All of them should perish!" A pack member yelled, "If that is what you want, that is what you shall have!" Brayden went to rip out Dylan's heart and to everyone's surprise, even mine. Malaysia dove in front of him growling, she screamed, "You are all acting like animals! Enough blood has been shed! Dylan and Connor have been like brothers to me. They taught me and Jess to ride bikes, they met us at the bus stop and walked us home when we were being picked on. They are not just men, they are family, and we have all lost people. Please stop this now!" She pleaded, Brayden walked over to her and paused, and then he back-handed my sister. I went at him and my father grabbed me, "If you are so concerned about them, then you are for them and against me!" Brayden yelled at my sister, "This is insanity!" I struggled against my father, "I am your mate!" She yelled at him, causing everyone to look at them confused, "Wait what?" I asked, "Yeah, Kye, Brayden, and I are true mates." Malaysia admitted, "Were," she glared at him, and then to my surprise she spat in his face. He grabbed her around the neck and my mom screamed, "No!" Still, my dad would not release me as Brayden choked my sister, Dylan and Connor struggled to free themselves. I didn't want to do it, but I shifted to get away from my dad, and for the first time father fought son. My mind was blown this was happening. I would never really hurt him, but I needed him to know that I would not back down. As I struggled with my dad, I could hear my mother screaming. I had to end this fast. I went for his neck. Camping down, I pinned him. He struggled but eventually, he accepted defeat. Shifting back, I froze as reality hit. My sister lay dead on the ground. My brain could not process what my eyes were seeing, "No you didn't." Brayden looked at me, then her, "Brayden tell me you didn't!" I dropped to my knees as my mother rocked back and forth with my sister in her arms. My dad shifted and went to touch my mom to comfort her, but she growled at him, "You let this happen," she cried out, "our baby, you are a spineless coward!" She wept, "No, where are the healers, someone, fix this," I cried, pulling at my hair in disbelief. Brayden fell to his knees, "Malaysia wake up, I'm sorry honey, wake up," he seemed confused, looking at his hands in disbelief, "WHERE ARE THE HEALERS!" Brayden yelled, Two women came forward and began to run their hands over her body, "Alpha it's no use, she is gone." "I can fix it if you let me go," Dylan spoke up, "Liar!" Brayden shouted, "He's not lying, Brayden," Connor said calmly, "we are healers." "Bring her over here quickly before it is too late," Dylan instructed. I didn't give Brayden a chance to object. I picked my sister up and carried her over to Dylan, and he began to move his hands around her neck," "I knew you were liars!" Brayden started to yell. I looked at him with contempt, as I watched his eyes glaze over. Brayden walked over and whispered something to my father. They went back and forth and suddenly Brayden announced, "You to are free to go." Dylan and Connor looked at each other as Brayden glared at me. "I want my parents' bodies," Dylan demanded. "No," Brayden said firmly when suddenly Malaysia let out a deep breath, she was alive! "I want my parents' bodies," Dylan demanded again. "Very well," Brayden said, looking at his mate, "Get off my land and never return," he said to both men, Connor laughed, "Oh, you think this is over Alpha Brayden?" Brayden gave him a cocky laugh, "I will see you during the council trials. I will be in the front row watching your sister being put down." Dylan looked at him, normally he was the quiet one, "The day my sister dies is the day you sentence this pack to death." "Is that a threat?" Brayden asked, "A promise," Connor growled, "And thank you is what most would say even to the enemy after saving their mate." Brayden just gave them a smirk as they were both escorted away. I looked at my sister and I could tell she like I was seeing who Brayden truly was for the first time, he had us all deceived.
