Chapter 2: The Chaos Magnet

283 Words
The door to the CEO’s office—glossy black, with a neat silver plate that read “Mr. Alex West, CEO”—was getting closer with every step, like a final verdict. Anastasia walked as if in a trance. Her heart was somewhere in her stomach. She stopped just in front of the door. Took a deep breath. Then let it out sharply. Then in again. And out. And again. Then, in one last desperate attempt to delay the inevitable, she bent down to fiddle with her barely tied shoelace. Right at that moment, the jet-black door swung open—violently. And out came him. The man who could ruin her day just by existing in his perfectly pressed suit. The one who never so much as nodded to interns in the hallway. The one who, clearly, never looked where he was going. And now? Now he was flying—sprawled midair—after tripping over one redheaded intern named Anastasia. [CENSORED] [CENSORED] [CENSORED] Inside the head of a very startled twenty-five-year-old woman, a full-on TV censor kicked into overdrive, frantically bleeping over the CEO’s verbal meltdown—a glorious stream of language unfit for human ears (and definitely unfit for interns). Finally, after some involuntary twitching of eyebrows and lips that vaguely resembled human expression, Anastasia looked up at him—at the man in the all-black, perfectly tailored suit—and squeaked: "Sorry..." "Inside. Now!" the Boss exploded. Still rubbing the side of her body where his emergency exit had landed, Anastasia straightened up and shuffled inside like she was personally responsible for the fall of humanity. She’d only been in this office twice before. Neither time had involved candy.
