4 He's Pursuing Me.

886 Words
Lucas greeted Amelia by phone once a week just to remind her he was there. He didn't want to rush things because he knew too well that haste makes waste. He also sent someone to investigate Amelia's family situation so he could understand her well. Amelia was still a innocent student at university. She was right under his thumb. Several months passed, and Amelia's mind was filled with doubt about Lucas: Did I misunderstand his good intentions? Mr. Williams has never showed any affection since then for so long now." Lucas felt it was the right time, so he appeared suddenly in front of Amelia. It wasn't too cold in New York this winter, so he waited outside her dormitory without even wearing a coat for almost one hour while Amelia finished dinner and went back to her dormitory. When Amelia saw Lucas for the first time right on campus, she got shocked, hoping he was looking for someone else. But no one else stopped except for herself! Lucas sensed that his sudden appearance surprised Amelia greatly and felt pleased. It at least showed she treated him as a friend. Lucas said: "I'd like to take you out for dinner tonight, but you just had dinner, right? Let's grab a coffee?" Amelia remained calm and smiled slightly: "Mr. Williams, what's up? If there is something I can do for you, tell me please." She wanted to get straight to the point and save time because delaying would mess things up. The gossip such as "A wealthy man seeking affection from a student" would spread to Oliver. Lucas couldn't think of anything better, "Amelia, I've got to say, I do like you. How about we take this conversation outside somewhere more private?" Amelia felt she couldn't delay any longer and cause them both unnecessary trouble. "You are good, but you know my situation. I have my Oliver and I love him so much. Thanks again for the wheelchairs." Lucas caught a glimpse of Oliver approaching, purposely leaned to Amelia and whispered to her, "I see you love him so much. Maybe time may change something." , but Amelia, with her back to Oliver and didn't notice his approaching. "Consider what I said. It's almost vacation, so you'll have time. I'll call you later." He nodded to Oliver and gave him a meaningful smile and left quickly. Oliver was taken aback. It was Lucas. He wanted to say hello to him, but there was no time. Lucas' small trick was effective. Oliver saw Lucas and Amelia talking closely and then watched as Lucas left hastily when he arrived, leaving him feeling unhappy. He knew about the wheelchair donation, and this time, seeing Lucas again, he had a premonition that something was about to happen. He kept asking Amelia what Lucas wanted, and after being overly pestered, she blurted out "He's pursuing me," and regretted it immediately. She decided to let Oliver handle it instead of herself. If it were any other man, Oliver would simply laugh it off, accustomed as he was to sudden rivals. But this was different. This was the older brother of their friends! Especially since he was so wealthy and powerful. Lucas subscribed to a life philosophy that embraced unfettered autonomy: he was committed to pursuing his desires with a disregard for convention and the opinions of others. So, when Sophia found out, Lucas was pursuing Amelia without caring for Oliver and Emma. She reminded him this was immoral, but Lucas did not feel guilty at all. However, he harbored a grudge against Oliver: "You little trash, you dare say I'm an evil git, you've got some nerve! Wait till you see what I've got in store for you!" Because Oliver commented to Lucas angrily, "Driven by his selfish desires, he was ready to rob the love of friends. His character was deeply flawed, and his morals were utterly corrupt." Sophia stopped reprimanding him anymore; she really felt exhausted from worrying about his marriage, especially as Lucas got older and older. She was even a little relieved that Lucas finally fell in love with this girl and showed his affection without disguising it. As long as she was able to support her son, all other worries took a back seat. After finding out about Amelia and her family, Sophia even thought, "This girl is really great, good-looking, and her family isn't bad either. Her father is a professor at the university, her mother is an accountant in a big company. She's a good match for my Lucas." Lucas kept his eyes shut as his mother offered her suggestions, not wanting to admit that he needed her help in winning over a girl. However, his mother's subsequent words commanded his full attention. "I can arrange a matchmaker for you, and it's bound to push your relationship. Her father's leader, Mrs Jones, is a close acquaintance of mine, and her husband, Mr Leo Jones, is a prominent figure in New York. I delivered their son, and if it weren't for my medical skills, both the baby and Mrs Jones would have lost their lives. Before my retirement, I performed gynecological surgery on her. She only trusts me, and she still calls me regularly to inquire about her health. Leo Jones has even thanked me in person.
