Captured?

1143 Words
IVY’S POV With thoughts of not wanting to be captured, Ivy raced toward the deeper part of the forest. Her feet had begun to ache, her hands and breath shook as every moment seemed like her last. She couldn’t stop herself; she couldn’t stop now. They couldn’t have gotten close already, Ivy tried to convince herself. And to make matters worse, the forest grew unusually quiet. No chirping, squeals, even the trees weren’t swayed by the wind. Her wolf instinct screamed and hated being the prey. But there was nothing she could do now. Unless she was ready to go without supplies and the things that mattered most to her. Ivy needed to keep this human form and find a way to outsmart her opponents. Hours had gone by and still nothing. By now, she was already out of water, and her throat burned and itched. Her lips became so dry that she was sure they would soon start to bleed. All these signs that she was soon about to reach the border. When all hope seemed almost lost, a faint scent reached her nose. It smelled like water. Ivy followed the scent and reached a shallow creek. It wasn’t as she had hoped. But what choice did she have? Ivy crouched close to the creek, her reflection barely showing. She used her hands to scoop the water, brought it to her lips, and then down her throat. A cold sensation shrouded her. She dipped her head into the creek before she pulled it out. She closed her eyes as she enjoyed the moment. In the midst of her ecstasy, she could feel it. The bond had grown stronger. Her eyes flew wide open when she heard. “You’re a hard woman to track,” a familiar voice said. Seated by the side of the creek was Kael, dressed in dark colours. His face was the complete opposite of that; it was as though he had a faint glow to him. His eyes were now just brown. Ivy looked at the distance between the two of them. If I wolf out, I might be able to outrun him. No, you won’t. What? Ivy looked at Kael, who hadn’t moved. Her feet were about to put more distance between them when it happened again. Don’t. She was sure she heard it, but at the same time, it was as though she didn’t. What is going on? Is it the stream? Am I hallucinating? I wish you were. Kael stood up from where he sat. A low growl began to escape from her lips. Her claws began to grow. It’s now or never. Ivy went for the attack and slashed at him. But he dodged effortlessly. Ivy, on the other hand, never stopped attacking. We can do this all day. Ivy never stopped. Instead, she got more furious by the second. She could feel through the bond that he was toying with her. All she needed was just one attack to land. If she was able to get away from him, then she could escape. After she backed him into a corner, her now-long claws slashed at him. Her claws ripped into his shirt effortlessly and drew blood. This was her chance to run. She went down on all fours and immediately transformed when she now smelled them. She had already been surrounded, but her mind was only on him, and she forgot the others. “Not bad. For someone with no training in it at all,” Kael said as he stood up, his eyes crimson red now. She could feel it. Her wolf wanted to cower again. But no, she wouldn’t. From within her, a resolve began to burn. The growls that escaped her lips began to grow louder. The other werewolves began to come out from where they hid, all ready to pounce on her. Kael stretched out his hands to stop them, a smile on his lips. “Not bad, but we have to go now.” Ivy’s wolf had a shocked expression at what he meant when suddenly everything turned dark. By the time Ivy had started to regain her consciousness, she could feel her body being carried effortlessly. And beside the person carrying her, she could see the other werewolves. This could only mean one thing. She was being carried to one place and one place only. Duskmoor’s castle. Seems you are awake now. Kael transmitted his thoughts to her. Let me down. Ivy thought back. Do you promise to behave yourself? Kael’s response was met with silence. If you try anything, you would just be caught again and knocked out till we reach the queen. Fine. Ivy replied. Kael dropped her on her feet. Ivy looked at him and then the closest forest nearby. But she could tell his eyes watched her every move. And finally, she gave it up. “Good,” Kael said as he took the lead, and they headed for Duskmoor’s castle. It didn’t take long for them to see the castle up ahead. The Duskmoor castle had very high walls which were made of obsidian that glistened in the sun. It was placed upon a hill, with tiny houses of the vassals in the valley. The sigil of House Draven flew from the flags on the castle. The sigil was that of a crescent moon, with a wolf below it. The castle also had various armoured werewolves on the walls, who looked down on the world below. As Kael and his party walked through the village, the crowd gave way, with smiles and giggles from the young female werewolves, while the little children had sparkles in their eyes. When they reached the castle gates, they were immediately opened for them as they walked in. The castle grounds were filled with maids and manservant werewolves who stood to welcome the party back. One of the manservants stepped forward. “My Lord, the Queen and council await your presence, along with that of the unsworn wolf in the great hall,” the manservant spoke before going back. The council? Ivy was confused. Kael stopped, his head slowly turning to look at her. Yes, the council. They are here to find out who you are. Unless you aren’t from Duskmoor and are actually a spy. As he transmitted those last thoughts to her, his claws had already started to grow out. The whole castle went on high alert. Everyone was ready to pounce on her. Ivy could feel her body grow cold. There was no way out of this. Is this going to be my fate? To die at the hands of werewolves like my parents? Slowly, she began to approach the steps into the castle. With a loud thud, the doors began to open. On her mind was one thing alone. Was this the end?
