CHAPTER 9: CALLISTA

CALLISTA POV After my completely embarrassing outburst by the pool house, my father calmed me down and explained this place. Apparently, this is not a cult. The triplets are the CEO’s of the several companies that they own. All the people here are the Harrisons’ employees and their families. Since this is such a remote area, a lot of people choose to live on site. They own a logging company that operates mostly in the huge expanse of forest at the northern end of the property. So all of the loggers live here since they would have almost no travel time. Considering the hours they work, it’s a blessing. Same goes for the maids, the landscapers, chefs, and the farm workers. They start very early in the morning and usually end up working double shifts for paid over time. So basically all of these people are here for convenience. Lydia’s family owns the land anyway so they have made good use of it. The “panic bunker” is for bad weather. Or the very rare break in. I’m not sure I’m buying this completely. I mean, my dad’s explanation does make more sense than this being a cult, but it’s just too perfect an explanation, if you ask me. . . Anyway, I’ll go along with it, for now. Then, my dad and Lydia finished my tour by showing me the palace. Yeah, everyone else probably wanted to steer clear of the crazy girl. I guess, during the panic of my utter meltdown, I was much louder than I thought I was being because everyone definitely heard me. Cool. I’m batting a thousand today. Thankfully, Lydia isn’t mad at me for being so rude and calling her home a dooms day cult. She linked her arm through mine as we started walking inside. She chuckled about it again. “I have honestly never thought about how this place seems from the outside looking in. I guess, I can see why you went straight to cult. Everyone here is very close and they respect my sons since they are technically everyone’s bosses. But we’re like a big family here. You will get used to it, you’ll see.” Mmmm-hmmmmm. Still sounding a bit cult-y to me. I mean, a cult is not just going to be like, “Oh hey! You look nice and gullible, please come and join our cult! We’re promise to feed you, clothe you, and only kill you when the time is right.” Pffft! I’m just going to keep my eyes open in the meantime. . . Like WIDE open. . .and get a good look around. . . So I don’t miss a single thing. . . If I’m going to be killed here, at least I’ll have a good view of all the delicious eye candy they have to offer. . . Ok! Now is not the time! I’m with Lydia and my dad. Knock it off, Cal! So, anywho, that was a nice chat we had as they showed me the main parts of the house so I can find my way around. They figured that I must be tired after my whole ordeal, so they are cutting the interior tour to just the things I need to know. Lydia said she will show me the rest of the house this weekend. I got to see the living area which has three gigantic sectionals and an equally gigantic TV. Then, they showed me the dining room that looks more like a banquet hall than a dining room. There’s beautiful crystal chandeliers on the ceiling above the very long tables. There have got to be about ten of them. They have a massive kitchen with an island and one of those double ovens. The refrigerator! Its huge! And there’s a walk in fridge and freezer as well! I’m gonna get so fat living here. . . On the way from the kitchen towards my room, Lydia showed me where the game room, the gym, and the full sized movie theater are at. I’ll explore those another day. I’ll also ponder on the absurdity of those amenities later, right now I just want to get to my room and be alone for a few minutes. Even just getting my shortened tour, I’m exhausted! This place is huge! There are five floors and probably hundreds of rooms! No wonder they have so many maids. . . The beauty of this place, though. God, I have never seen a more gorgeous building in my life! The decorations, the flooring, the lights, just everything. Flawless! We finally make it to my room in the West wing. Yeah, wing. I told you this place was big. I guess dad and Lydia are in the East wing for privacy. YUCK. James is on my floor in this wing and the triplets are on the fifth floor in this wing. Lydia gives me the key to my room and lets me know that the maids have already brought all of my bags up and the movers brought everything else up here. She and my dad each hug me and then leave me to my business. I open the door and gasp at what I see. This is not a room, this is an apartment! The whole place is a barely there blush pink with white and gold accents. It’s so elegant! I have a living room area right inside the door with a fireplace. A fireplace! I have a beautiful couch. It’s soft, fluffy, and white. There is a white coffee table in front of the couch. Across the room there is a huge king sized bed in the center of the far wall. The bedding is pink and white to match the room and there are so many pillows! Ahhh!! This looks so comfy! I can’t wait to sleep! There is a matching bedside table with a gold lamp, a dresser, and a cute vanity table. To the right of that I have a desk and a bookcase nestled by the window bench to make a cozy little reading nook. THERE. ARE. MORE. PILLOWS. OVER. HERE! This place is so fu.cking cozy I can’t handle it. There’s a small kitchen area, also, which mainly consists of a refrigerator, a sink and a coffee maker with a couple of cabinets for snacks. I go over to check out the three mystery doors in here. At least one has to be a closet, maybe a bathroom? I walk over and open the first door and it’s. . . HOLY BALLS! It’s the biggest, most beautiful walk- in closet I have ever seen! I don’t know if I can even handle opening the other doors in here, now. Well, here goes nothing. . . The second door is. . . did I say HOLY BALLS before because I mean HOLY FREAKING BALLS! In front of me is the biggest, most glamorous bathroom that I have ever been in! There is a waterfall shower with about a hundred jet sprayers coming out of the walls. There is a jacuzzi tub that I could fit the schools entire football team in and a double vanity that looks to be already stocked with designer products. Everything is white marble and gold. I feel like I’m in a fancy hotel. I cannot believe that I get to live here! Well, for a year anyway. My room at my dad’s house was nice, but this? This makes it seem like we were living in squalor. I make my way out of the bathroom and decide it’s time to find out what is behind door number three. Wow! It’s a balcony! A very large balcony with a table and two comfy arm chairs! I have an amazing view of the compound from here. At least I have a good vantage point to see if they are coming to haul my a.ss away for some freaky sacrifice or something. Lucky for me, I’m not a virgin. I can’t help but snicker at the thought. Ok, I’m just being mean now. Settle down, Callie. I better start unpacking to distract myself. . .
