Chapter 6 Duties

1904 Words
Octavia's POV I was linked by Jalen to come down to his office before dinner. I opened the door and saw him, Locklan, and my trainer. They were smiling, but I still felt awkward. None the less, I sat. "Jalen, what's going on." "Samatha?" Jalen said, giving cues for her to talk. She came over and sat by me. "Octavia, how do you feel about me being your... We will call it a friend. Only one you won't lose. EVER!" Okay, I thought. "I'm going to be honest. I feel there's something I am meant to do for you. So, I'll be your trainer, body guard, and caregiver." "Um... I... Why? I'm not one to bother people and ask for help. I can handle myself." "Okay. So, let's just say I feel the Moon Goddess calling me to do this. Second, I will be your trainer and protecter. As far as caregiver, I won't do anything you feel uncomfortable about. And, you can wish me away whenever you want. But within reason that I feel you're not in danger." Jalen walked over to me and knelt down, "Please let her do this for us. It will be good for you but also help us both. And if someone like Samantha feels it's what the Goddess wants... I believe her. She loves training. I never thought I'd hear a day that she'd want to do anything else." I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. "Okay." Jalen smiled and kissed my forehead. "Thank you. Now, another thing before dinner. You will go to training as normal in the morning. But, as it will be Monday, someone will be here after breakfast for your private schooling. After lunch, you will be in here learning your Luna duties." "Oh wow... I almost forgot about school and..." My heart sank. "My bracelet. Where did my bracelet go? I was given a gold charm bracelet for my birthday. I wore it to school that day and..." My last thought put me in tears. "I transitioned. I lost it." "I'll call your parents after breakfast, my love. I'm sorry. Try to calm down. Let's go down for dinner for now." After a few mins of tears. The four of us went down to dinner. I ate kind of slowly. I was overwhelmed from the day. Jalen carried me back to the room as I was tired. He sat me on my bed. We changed and crawled in the bed. This time, I looked at him. And gave him a long kiss. And not expecting it, both of us growled. "Good night, Jalen. I love you." "I love you, Octavia. I'll do anything for you." "Start with calling me Tavie." "Yes, my Luna." 5 o'clock in the morning came, with a hot cup of coffee. Jalen and I dressed and walked straight over to train. I'm less of a personal hazard with a walking stick, but we agreed it would be better to strengthen my legs. Samantha trained me even harder. This time, she really challenged my balance. She smiled a lot more, but this time, she was more determined. When we were done, the three of us walked back to the pack house for breakfast. Samantha sat at a different table. She talked to others. But I could tell she kept watching me. When we stood up, she did, too. Jalen took me over to the living room. And a lady was in there with a load of books in her arms. "Alpha, is this the new Luna?" "Yes, Mrs. Green. This is Octavia." "Octavia." She held out her hand, and I shook it. "Today, I'm just going to test your knowledge and figure out where you were in your other school." "Yes, ma'am." Mrs. Green asked about a private room. Jalen took us to a room on the first floor for conferences. It had one long table, and we sat on one end while Samantha sat on the other. Jalen said he'd see me at lunch and kissed my forehead. Mrs. Green asked questions. She gave me a quiz just to see where I was. And, I gave her my school information so she could retrieve my academic record. She said she felt she had a good start. She said that tomorrow we'd start. But we could adjust if need be. I walked over to the kitchen for lunch. Jalen mind linked me that he would be missing lunch with me. He was in a last-minute phone conference. So, Samantha sat with me. "Octavia, tell me about your life before Jalen." "I, uh, am an only child. I was born this way, so my parents didn't have another cub. I never got to train. My Alpha never felt it was necessary. My uncle was head trainer, but he just said I was excused. I was confined to a wheel chair. I don't know why, but I never thought to challenge anyone or myself. I only really had one friend. Only one person REALLY bullied me. But she bullied me pretty hard. While no one else technically did, they also didn't help much ether." I looked out the window. "Preston was my friend. Gloria and Paul are my parents. My dad was OK. He was always busy. My mom was most dedicated to me. She always told me to never ask anyone too much for help. I think she didn't want to give the pack a reason to feel like I was a burden. Preston was the only one to protect me at school." I shrugged. "Ohnestly, my life wasn't too eventful... Till Friday night, when I I turned eighteen and got my wolf." She had a blank look but smiled. "I think you might be surprised what the Goddess has in store for you." She looked up at the ceiling. "Just," she looked down again, "Take it day by day. And soak in all that life will give you now. Grow. And, allow people to be here for you now. Maybe not asking for too much was what you needed back then. But now, maybe the Goddess has different plans for you." "Yeah," my insides are screaming no. "I guess I'll just have to learn to deal with it. But, here's my thing. Regardless of any crippled limitations I have, I want to be able to fight to. So, I need you to get me there." She agreed. We finished lunch and went up to Jalen's office. Jalens office was very different and rearranged. The first room into the office had a smaller office now in place. The corner had a seating area for people waiting. The office had new decor and a color theme of green, black, and grey. We walked into the private office for the Alpha. Jalen sat there with Locklan. They both stood up and told me surprise. "Come with me." He led me to my desk. "So, mostly, your job is about peace and community. But, people will make requests for changes. You can do with those requests as you see fit. But, you may encounter some that sound more like something I need to hear. Your job there is to direct them to me." I sat down on my amazingly comfortable computer chair. I noticed a tray of paperwork and picked one up. Jalen said, "Those are written requests." He explained how I would handle each one. Jalen and Locklan eventually went back into the office. Samantha sat at a chair in the corner. She pulled out a laptop doing her own thing. I handled some of the paperwork. Out of nowhere, a Gamma busted through the door. "Alpha! Beta Locklan!" He ran into the office, and the only thing I got was rogues. Samantha jumped up and commanded me to stay put. I started to hear growls and howels all around me. Jalen and Locklan came out. Jalen looked kind of concerned. But, Axel was just at the edge. His yellow eyes and blue flecks were forming. With claws at the end of Jalens fingers. But the rough voice of Axel spoke to me. "Tavie. Please, stay here. We are under attack. Allow Xandra to shift if you start to get scared." I didn't really react at first. Samantha had phased and was sitting. Her wolf was brown, and her paws faded to black. She introduced herself to me as Dakira. "It's an honor, my lady." And stood guard in front of the door. Every few minutes, she'd become tense and focused. She made me almost as nervous as the situation itself did. But, I didn't take it as seriously as I did till the front door was busted down. Xandra took over at that point. She walked over by Dakira. Dakira looked up at her. Xandra made I huffing sound at her. The door knob rattled. Then someone kicked it in. It was a rogue. His eyes were red. He looked at me like he had just won the lottery."You can definitely come with us." He jumped at us. Dakira took him down after a few minutes. She had her jaw wrapped around his neck when he blacked out. But another rogue came in, and Xandra jumped him. I don't know how, but Xandra managed to kill him. I turned back into myself and dragged an unconscious wolf into a coat closet. Then, I pushed a chair up against the door. Dakira told me to wait. She said the pack had linked her that they were falling back. She wanted to go out there. She'd call for me if it was truly safe. When she finally called and I walked out, the scene was bad. While Golden-Moon is strong and large, the damage was still bad. There were a few houses on fire. Several dead bodies were lying around. And a few parents were in tears because kids had been taken. Several strong wolves had been injected with wolfsbane and taken too. "Jalen! Jalen, where are you!" I tried to run with my stick, but I fell on my face. Samantha grabbed my arm and lifted me up. "He's fine he hears you. He's at the gate." Samantha and I went back to the office to grab a notebook. Back on the lawn, we started writing down every known person who had been taken. After a while, Samantha told me to go back to my office. She was going to offer her services to anyone in need. I went to the kitchen and talked to the Omegas. "Luna," greeted one of the oldest ladies. "What can we do for you?" "How fast do you think you can whip up enough food for many pack members. After this attack, I know there's going to be a lot of people who need comforting" "No problem. I'll keep it simple like soup and sandwiches." Suddenly, I heard Jalen calling for me. I went to him and told him what I had set up. He said it was a great idea. He closed his eyes and mind linked the pack about dinner. We went to the basement and grabbed extra tables and chairs. Jalen suddenly stood up and was trying to listen. I realized he heard the person I locked in the closet. I told him what it was. He kissed me on the forehead and took off with Locklan hot on his heels.
