HE KNEW

Ushar’s car moved rapidly on a road with spiraled round a mountain ending at its flat top. Soon, his car had reached the mountain top and to the side, he could see a lady in a long white coat whose back was turned towards him, her white coat as well as long black hair fluttered in the wind. “Linda.” He called on getting out of the car and the lady turned towards him. “You got the message.” She said with a relieved expression on her face. “So that old man was really arranged by you, he sure knew his job.” Ushar said chuckling as he reached Linda side and together, they stared off into the hills and valleys around. “I choose the best I could find, seems he was worth his pay.” Linda spoke. “He was.” Ushar muttered pausing for a moment, before his face turned solemn and he asked, “so, what happened?” Linda closed her eyes for a moment before sighing, “Greg told you the main gist of it. Some Breakers attack, all possessing strong magical powers and they destroyed the base, that pimp begged them to spare his life and they did, in return he gave out all information he knew about you to them but still, everything that happened was not reasonable to me so I did some digging. I almost found out the truth but the government locked down on me in the process. Many things followed and I think we might want to talk over a drink.” Linda said and silence followed for a moment before speaking. “Get into the car then.” He said. After both got into the car, it was quickly moved into the ground through a circular hole and soon, both were in his sitting room. “I am quite surprised, you have got quite a collection here.” Linda muttered, looking through a freezer by the side, “so, what would you like to know first? I don’t quite know where to start.” She said, eventually choosing a drink as she walked to Ushar side. “I think I would like to know how you survived first. I mean apart from you everyone else were killed, I don’t believe you alone could have escaped.” Ushar said, and Linda chuckled sitting beside him. “You are right.” She said, filling two cups before handing one over to Ushar who shook his head. “I don’t really drink, those are put in here by the boss.” He said, and Linda chuckled. “My bad, I almost forgot about your strange diets.” She said, chuckling before sipping from the glass cup. Ushar chuckled as well, his first encounter with the Seer Mercenary had involved only four people, the Boss, Linda, Bryan and Sara. The rest only joined the group after him hence, he was closer to these four than any other person and again, only this four knew what he truly was. “So to answer your question, I didn’t escape. Just that I was never in the base in the first place.” Linda said before taking a larger sip and Ushar’s face twitched. “Err… that is quite alcoholic Linda, it’s meant to be taken in small amount.” He said, and Linda raised a brow, “I am a Doctor Ushar, you don’t need to tell me about alcohol”, she said, and then sighed, “actually, you are right but this is the only way I can keep my sanity for now.” She said taking another sip again and Ushar shook his head before he continued. “You weren’t at the base, why was that? Where were you and how come you were calling Greg Boss.” He asked with thinned eyes and Linda could spot slight suspicion in them. No matter how Ushar wanted to trust the lady, he could not help but think back to the fact that she was there all along when he had been dozed to stupor. In fact, she was likely the one who had administered the doze. “I understand you Ushar, you have every right to be suspicious but if you really studied the Boss, you wouldn’t be very surprised. You see, he behaves like someone who sees into the future and I actually think that is why he named the group Seer Mercenaries.” Linda paused for a moment, before continuing, “He called me the morning before the night of the attack and simply directed me to take a vacation. I never heard him say that before.” Linda said chuckling, “I was suspicious but still happy and I did take the vacation. I went to some beautiful beach and was having a great time but just the next day, I got a call. The call was from Greg and he broke the news to me, according to him, the base had been destroyed but he had taken over whatever was left of it. He had become the Boss' position and I was to report to him immediately. I could not help thinking back to the Boss’ action, without doubt, he had foreseen the attack but didn’t want everyone to perish so he sent me away and sacrificed everyone else. That’s why I survived”, Linda concluded. Ushar’s jaw was clenched as he heard the girl’s word, “but why, why would he let himself get killed just like that, he could have just hidden with the rest and wait for my arrival, I would have been able to protect us all.” Ushar said, his teeth gritted. “No. Boss never acts without a reason and his choices are always the best. He probably knows there is no way to hide and when I looked into it, there is really no way for us to hide. The Magician’s attack wasn’t something that could have been hidden from the government’s surveillance. The human forces had full knowledge of the attack and they should have been considered Breaker and attacked by the human forces on sight but they weren’t, do you know why?” Linda asked but Ushar only gaze a questioning gaze in return. “That is because the government fully approved of this attack. Remember, we were contracted by the government to abduct the girl, but what would the government want to gain from abducting a single girl. If they really wanted to get rid of a Breaker they could have just tried to kill her but no, they wanted her alive. Don’t you think there is something fishy about that? Then the Magicians came back to get rid of us, why would they want to do that? I think it has something to do with the silver-haired Witch which finally leads to the question; how did they know we were the one who abducted her? Only the government could provide such information to them and they did.” She explained and Ushar’s brow rose in surprise.
