OLD FRIEND

1303 Words
The human settlement in the Blood Kingdom looked a lot like any other human village only that here, there was no bright sky, instead, the sky was dark. Bright lamps however lined the street and every single corner of the houses providing enough light for the human eyes. On a lively street, Ushar walked along, watching the humans who were busy with their various activities. Soon, he was out of the settlement and walking towards a large hill in the distance. At the foot of the hill, a beautiful pile composed of crystals of different colors stacked on one another could be seen. Ushar paused on reaching this pile before bending and caressing the crystals as he muttered, “it’s been a long time mom… seems more beautiful stones have been stacked on your grave…” He paused for a moment before continuing “Ushar has finally returned to say hi once again. Father too is gone, yeah, I told you that already but before leaving he gave me a final request. He wanted me to find a way so Vampires wouldn’t need to prey on humans again, it was tough mom. When I got into the human world, I was all alone, ignorant and wild until I encountered a group of humans. They were all afraid of the monster I was except one, they call him Boss. We talked mom and I felt he could help me so I struck an agreement with him, I – became a mercenary. I am thankful I did because he helped me so much but another person also helped me with the request Father made. She is called Linda and she successfully created artificial blood, I don’t even know what you humans cannot create mom, haha… but it is all great, I think I have the perfect solution for the Vampires now. Soon, nobody would have to live like you did, to die like you did. That is what you also wanted, right?”’ Ushar said feeling some wetness in his eyes, “I gave the synthetic blood to Vera, I could see she liked it a great deal. Soon, I will get everyone out of this dark hole. I will fulfill your wish.” He concluded before standing when he suddenly froze. “I don’t know why I am saying this mom but I think you should know. After losing both you and father in a single night, I think I lost a bit of myself. I snapped easily and destroyed many lives and properties at any slight provocation, until I was granted the system and it helped quite a bit. However, I met a girl about a week ago, she was my target but I think I was the one captured. Still, I can’t have her, I am too uncontrolled, I could hurt her so I kept this little hat in remembrance of her. Vera asked me for it and I actually expected to snap again but it seems the system had really made me completely sane. But it is quite ironic that I had to capture and deliver her to her enemies before gaining this sanity, isn't it?" With a forced smile, Ushar turned back towards the human settlement. “Uh, what is this?” Ushar muttered, pausing in his movement as he looked straight ahead. Some moments later in the human settlement… Ushar paused for a moment looking at a large door in front of him before walking forwards and knocking. He could hear everyone inside quieted for a moment. “Who is it?” A familiar voice eventually asked. “It is the Bone Demon, kid” Ushar replied and the place quietened again before the sound of approaching footsteps reached Ushar’s ear. “Don’t open that door, Dunn.” A man’s voice spoke. “Bone demon… the last time I saw you, you had grabbed my neck like you were going to snap it the next moment. Why the hell are you speaking like you expect me to jump at the door because you are here?” Dunn replied from inside the room. “I… I did that to save you, if the vampires know you helped me they might come after you so I had to make it look like you were just a random human kid about to fell victim to my madness. I really…” “Hey, it is okay. I thought as much anyways.” Dunn replied from the inside before of footsteps reached Ushar’s ear. “You aren’t going to open that door again, are you Dunn?” The other man who had spoken earlier said again with alarmed voice but Dunn did not stop. “It’s okay Brad, it turned out okay when I opened it the last time and I think he can break the door if he wants anyway so just relax, he is an old friend.” Dunn replied spoke just as the door opened and the young man who had led the human earlier could be seen, his eyes looking all over Ushar’s figure before he smiled widely. “It is really you.” The young man spoke motioning for Ushar to enter. “It’s me, Dunn.” Ushar replied entering the room and inside, he could see three other people, two ladies and a man. “Hey guys, meet a friend I met many years ago. The son of the former human leader, Madam Eleanor, err… I call him Bone Demon.” Dunn could not help scratch his chin on realizing that he actually did not this Ushar’s name but he spoke on anyways, “and these are my friends and family, Brad, he served lady Eleanor before the tragic incident. He is now leading us in her place.” He said before turning to a beautiful white haired lady holding a long staff which had a crystal embedded at one end of it, “she is Agnes, a strong Witch and she is Joan” the young man spoke and Ushar looked around the group, his eyes lingering on the last girl. He could remember she was the one whose hand Dunn had taken while leading the newcomers back to the human settlement. “Bone Demon.” The Witch muttered looking skeptically at Ushar. “I am indeed Bone Demon as Dunn had decided to name me a long time ago, nice to meet you all.” Ushar spoke with a smile. “Nice to meet you too, Bone Demon. I can’t believe you are the giant bone monster that kept me awake at nights but since Dunn said we can trust you, I trust him.” The man called Brad spoke and Ushar raised a brow, looking at the young man before nodding. “Indeed, you can trust me but this is a Witch, I don’t believe the Vampires would let a Witch in their territory so, what are you guys planning?” Ushar asked looking at the Witch, his eyes thinned slightly. “Before answering you, I would like you to tell me this Bone Demon, are you finally here to fulfill your promise or not?” Dunn asked looking at Ushar who gave a slight smile. Dunn was the young boy who had helped him bury his mother’s bones about a decade ago and after doing that, the young man had requested something from him, freedom. Ushar however knew there was no freedom for the humans as long as the Vampires depended on them for blood so he had promised to come back in the future and free all the humans. Again, this was the request his father had made to him as well so he had no choice, he would free the humans and now he was very close to fulfilling this promise.
