Just as Boss left, Ushar surprisingly watched Linda and another man – Ryan – enter his room.
Ryan was actually the man whose hand he had cut off around a year back when he tried to escape this place. Now the man’s hand had been replaced by some robotic arm. After Ushar agreed to work for the Seeker Mercenary, Ryan and Linda were the only ones he regularly interacted with as the Boss always seemed too busy doing his own things.
Linda and Boss actually lived here but Ryan had to stay because he was trying to get accustomed to his new robotic hand with Boss’s help. Occasionally, some other members of the mercenary guild also visited but he was only accustomed to Linda.
Even though they had a rough start, he and Linda began to get along on the way and for over a year now, Linda had been teaching him many things ranging from Earth geography, human politics, human science and many more. Then there were also the weapon trainings which Ushar found really interesting but here, he had to share the training room with Ryan and that at first resulted in several clashes but both of them had eventually learnt to avoid each other’s path.
This was the reason for Ushar’s surprise, Ryan’s cold attitude towards him was very justified, the man bore the grudge that Ushar amputated him and now that Ushar thought back to all his reactions to the man, he did not exactly helped matters so how come the man was here to see him with Linda.
“Linda and err… Ryan” Ushar spoke and Linda stared at him for a moment then a pleasant smile began to spread accross her face.
“Hey, seems someone is learning to be polite for once.” She spoke but Ushar’s face immediately hardened, he was actually ashamed of how arrogant he had always been but something inside him still wasn’t willing to admit it.
“Well, why are you both here?” He questioned with a slight frown.
“How about you tell me why you snuck off first.” Linda asked with both hands on her hips like she was about to tell off a kid. In fact, this was the best way Linda had figured out to deal with Ushar, his thinking was too direct though not naïve. He was easily upset by the slightest things and would throw tantrums like a kid so Linda decided to treat him just like that, a kid.
“You know why I snuck off Linda. For over two years now, I have been stuck in this same place, why? Because Boss wouldn’t let me go anywhere farther than a kilometer around here and trust me, I was eager to see for myself everything you taught me about human world. I couldn’t hold myself back any longer.” Ushar said with a shrug.
“So you thought the best thing was to sneak off for a whole month and when we eventually found you, it was in wreckage with a kid murdered by you.” Linda replied and Ushar at her for a moment before looking to the side with guilt on his face.
“I have got the system now, Boss said that with it I won’t be able to transform and cause much destruction again.” Ushar spoke after sometimes.
“That’s a relief.” Linda said with a sigh.
“But it doesn’t cleanse your bloodied hands, you are still a murderer.” Ryan who had been silent all along spoke and Linda gave a pleading look but he continued without care, “You should tell this bloodsucker the truth.”
“Please Ryan, we talked about this and Boss just gave him the chance to redeem himself, only now can we start to judge him.” Linda said and Ryan shook his head looking away.
“He is right, I am a murderer but I am ready to take this chance and redeem myself. Come to think of it, me being unable to transform again is actually a relief, Boss doesn’t get any excuse to keep me in here any longer, right? Now I can go on to explore this world.” Ushar said excitedly.
“Since you seem so eager for some action, why don’t you check your phone.” Linda said and Ushar stared at her with raised brow before stretching her hand into the top of a table by the side and picking his phone from it.
“Hey, is this real?” Ushar muttered as his gaze alternated between Linda and his phone’s screen.
“It is Ushar, you are going on your very first mission with Ryan.” Linda replied and a cheeky smile emerged on Ushar’s face which he tried to suppress without success. He had been taught many things about the Seeker Mercenary, they are a secret organization often contacted by powerful peoples and organization in the human world to take care of their dark jobs. Few times however, they received orders from the government through some special agents to help deal with issues they were too afraid to deal with. These issues were always connected with the supernatural creatures from the underworld and the government simply did not want to appear as being against the supernaturals for whatever reasons so they used the seeker mercenaries.
“I… damn! I have to calm down…” Ushar muttered closing his eyes as he sucked in a cold breathe before opening back his shut eyes and staring at Ryan as he asked, “Do I have to go on this mission with him.”
“You have to and you both will have to figure out a way to work together. Whenever there is a mission involving pairs, you both are in it together.” Linda replied.
“Really, it won’t work and whatever it is, I think I can do it alone.” Ushar said as he stood from his bed, he could not wait to get on with the mission.
“That’s Boss’ order.” Linda replied and Ushar paused for a moment before turning towards her and speaking.
“Tell him I would like to see him; I can’t work with a person who won’t stop seeking dea...” Ushar speech was suddenly interrupted by Ryan.
“Shut up boy. Trust me, if I die before you do, that is because I am older than you. Now my advice to you is that you don’t bother yourself, once Boss makes a decision, there is no going back, you can’t convince him to separate us so we had better deal with this.” Ryan spoke and Ushar turned towards him with a brow raised.
“First off, I am a vam…. half vampire so I am sure I would live far longer than you can ever imagine and secondly, there is nothing to deal with. The problem here is that you can’t withstand me, you are like a sheep in the presence of a wolf, you are overwhelmed and I understand that but if you can ignore your fears which are very well justified, I have no problem working with you.” Ushar stated before walking off while Ryan’s face twitched in rage as he watched Ushar’s broad back depart.
Ushar’s words struck hard because they were actually true.
