Save My Child

I watched them from the upstairs porch. They chatted and played happily together. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought she was his wife. But I was the wife, and I had never had this opportunity. Toby had always been busy; he had never made time for quality family moments. maybe it was because i was the one asking him. They looked like a happy family of three, and throughout their conversation, I could hear my son, Jordan, addressing her as Mom. “I’m sorry for causing a dispute between you and Susan,” Ruby said when she noticed me from the corner of her eye. With a smirk, she turned to Toby. “I’m sorry, Toby.” “You don’t have to apologize. If only she were as sensible and good as you, you wouldn’t have been humiliated today,” he said calmly and gently. I clenched my fists as I listened to his reply. To him, I wasn’t just insensitive—I was foolish and bad. I smiled bitterly. So that was how he had always seen me. I turned to leave, but Ruby stopped me. “Susan, come join us for a card game. I bet you can’t beat me. I’m the better player,” she said, looking at me, she wasn't just inviting, she was seeking trouble. I tried to ignore her and walk away. “She’s kind enough to invite you after all the humiliation you gave her today,” Toby said. Ruby stood up and walked toward me with a smile. “How do you feel, Susan?” she asked, giving me a mocking smile. I stood there silently. She was trying to provoke me. What exactly did she think she was doing—rubbing her pointless victory in my face? “What if you are his wife? It’s only for a short period of time. Soon, you’ll be out of our lives. Toby needs a strong Luna by his side, not some weak omega,” she said, looking at me with disgust. She couldn’t even hide her true nature for long, just today she came, she has already started causing a scene. “What makes you think you’re better?” I asked, looking at her with amusement. She sounded ridiculous. “I’m a beta, not some common omega with no background or connections. How could you even think you could fight me?” she said. I just smiled. What made her think I was an omega? and fight her, like she's even worth it, But it didn’t matter anymore. I leaned toward her and brushed a speck of dust from her sleeve. “Your tricks won’t work on me, Ruby,” I whispered. “I’m still his wife. I’m still his Luna. But you…” I clicked my tongue softly. “You’re just a w***e clinging to my husband like a leech.” I looked at her one last time. “You’re still beautiful. Don’t become a slut and ruin that beauty by wasting your time, with my husband” I said as I turned to leave. But she grabbed my hand instead, her face burning red with anger. “Let’s see who’s truly worthy, dear Susan,” she said with a sarcastic smile. Then, in a louder voice for Toby and the others downstairs to hear, she said, “I’m only trying to apologize to you. Why are you making things so difficult for me?” “Know your place and let go of my hand,” I said as I tried to pull away, but her grip tightened. “Let me go, please, Susan!” she shouted, even though she was the one holding on to me. Then she deliberately stepped backward down the stairs, dragging me along with her. “Ahhh!” We both screamed as we tumbled down the stairs. How could she be this vicious? She hadn’t only tried to harm herself—she had tried to harm me and my baby too. How could I have been foolish enough to fall for her trick? If anything happened to my baby, I would never let her get away with it. That was my last thought as my stomach slammed against the edge of the stairs. “Ruby!” Toby shouted as he ran toward her, pushing past me just to save her. “Ruby, stay awake. I’ll rush you to the hospital,” he said as he carried her in his arms. I grabbed his trouser leg, begging him to save me and my baby, but he only looked at me with disgust. “You vicious creature, blessed with the privilege of breath—how dare you touch me?” he shouted as he kicked my hand away from his trouser. Without even glancing back at me, he walked away. I held my stomach in agony as I felt warm blood flow between my thighs. My baby. I clutched my stomach tightly. At that moment, Jordan was my only hope, so I shouted his name for help. But he only sneered. Instead, he kicked me hard in the stomach. “You wicked woman! You’ll pay if anything happens to Mommy Ruby!” he shouted angrily before running upstairs. I held my stomach as I crawled weakly across the floor toward the house phone. How could I have given birth to such a child? A child who didn’t hesitate to hurt me for the sake of an outsider. With trembling fingers, I dialed the first number that came to mind. “Help me... save my baby,” I whispered as my vision began to blur. “Where are you, Susan?” he asked immediately. “I’m at the Max—” I couldn’t finish my sentence before everything went dark. If I survived, I would make them pay the price.
