Episode 10 — The Man in the House
Daniel slowly turned.
A man stood in the doorway.
It was the stranger from the road.
Daniel stepped backward.
“How did you enter my house?”
The man smiled.
“That doesn't matter.”
Daniel held the photograph tightly.
“Where is my father?”
The man's smile disappeared.
“You should stop asking questions.”
“Where is he?”
The man stepped closer.
Daniel's mother rushed into the room.
“Who are you?”
The man looked at her.
“Your son has something that belongs to me.”
Daniel quickly hid the photograph behind his back.
“I don't have anything.”
The man laughed.
“You are a good liar for an honest boy.”
Daniel felt fear rising inside him.
The man suddenly looked toward the wooden box.
“You found it.”
Daniel realized the stranger knew about the box.
Then the man said something that shocked him.
“Your father did not disappear because of the envelope.”
Daniel stared at him.
“Then why did he disappear?”
The man leaned closer.
“Because he discovered who was stealing money from the village.”
Daniel's eyes widened.
Before he could ask another question, the man ran outside.
Daniel rushed after him.
But the road was empty.
Only one thing remained.
A black cloth was lying on the ground.
And inside it was a note:
YOUR FATHER IS STILL ALIVE.
BUT YOU MUST FIND HIM BEFORE THEY DO.
