Jay ended up grabbing a quick bite from a fast food place she found on the way back toward the house. She had also stopped by the grocery to get a few items, so she wouldn’t have to keep going out to eat. Some color was coming back into her face. Maybe that was why she was acting so out of character since she had arrived.
Going without eating for long periods was not her norm. She was not fat, thick was more accurate. Jay liked to think, thick in all the right places, but since she found out Chris was running around town on her, her inner critic caused doubts. Was she ugly? Frumpy? Chris was the only man who had ever really shown interest in her.
She sat in her new driveway, thinking maybe more changes were in store for her.
Ms. Swanson, is running late.
Jay decided to stroll back to the backyard once more to kill time. She couldn’t wait to be settled in her new place. She wandered up to the back sliding door, and clasped her hands around her eyes so she could see inside better.
Someone cleared their throat to get her attention.
She jumped a bit surprised anyone had gotten that close without her noticing.
“Trespassing again?” What are the odds, Jay thought as she took in the view of this gorgeous stranger for the second time today.
“Are you stalking me?” She said. He made that face again. He looked so cute to her with that quizzical look. “Stalking you, huh? Why are you here? And you better make it good this time, weirdo.” Jay could do without all the name calling. “I’m waiting to meet the owner, this is my new place.”
At that he looked thoughtful, “You’re Jayne McKenzie?” Hearing him say her government name caused her to puddle a little. What in the world is going on with me today? “And who are you that you know my name?” Jay said, with her hands on her hips.
“I’m Greg, My mother had something come up, she sent me to settle things up.” Oh, this is unfortunate.
