CHAPTER 4 (Alone√)

1304 Words
I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life before. But now. I want simplicity in my life. Some action must be taken on their own. It's the only way to really understand where you're going and who you're supposed to be.. He's been trying to talk to me for a long time, to the point that it's becoming irritating. I have no idea what he ate or what is on his mind. Kit, I knew, was the one who scribbled the letter on my locker. If he came here for love or something else entirely. It's best if he stays away from me right now because I'm going to scare him away. I made a promise to myself that I would never have a relationship. And I don’t like him either. I knew he was a flirtatious man. I haven't seen his future yet, but that's what I think. As I open the wooden door from the library, I accidentally bump into someone who was supposedly going inside a library. It's Daphne. My classmate wears a black glasses. “Sorry.” I said, my things have fallen to the floor. As I picked it up one-by-one I accidentally met her eyes in a split second. “I'm sorry... I'm sorry, Lorie...” I don't respond. I dash forward without looking back. What did my heart decide to do all of a sudden? This is the one thing I can stay away from the most. I don't want to harm someone like I have in the past. I don't want to go over it again right now. “Daphne?” I turned and called out to her. She's a genius, I hope she'll understand me. “Y-yes?” she hasn't gone inside the library. She's still standing there and seems confused. “Lorie?” I took a deep breath before I spoke. “Can you come with me?” “Huh? What? Where?” Think. Think. Think Lorie. “I need help with our assignment.” I really hate this. I have never asked for help from anyone before. But for her, I will. You know, I'm a freaking seeker. … Mrs. Rodger got a weekly raise of $145. If she gets paid every other week, write an integer describing how the raise will affect her paycheck. “Lorie, did you get it?” The incident I saw in her eyes was forcibly coming back. I just came back to reality when I heard her call my name. “Huh?” “Um, I said did you get it?” “Ah, yes.'' I thought I was paying attention the whole time but I'm not. I feel like my mind is in the cloud. I don't know why I'm doing this, but seeing her future earlier. I felt scared for her. “Are you okay” I asked out of nowhere. Daphne gave me a puzzle look when I asked her. I wouldn't blame her at all. If your classmates who you never talk to, ask you if you're okay. I can understand why she was surprised, even though I don't understand myself much less here. We went to the library, and she tortured me there. She expressed her viewpoint on the matter. Really, studying isn't something I'm really interested in. That's something I've been thinking about for a long time. Since I was always stuck at home and doing nothing, I did self-study at the time. I just leave home when I need to go to a nearby convenience store. “Do you want to borrow my notes, Lori?” Her brown eyes were hidden under thick black shades. Her hair is messy at times, and she wears it in pigtails at other times. It's not very sloppy; it's just naturally wavy. She's sweet and one of those stereotypical university geeks that appear in almost every film with a university setting. She's your average nerd. She still got a perfect score on the test. But it's good enough for me. Since I still guess the test, I only got 90 out of 100. She is a second-place finisher in the class. It's already six o'clock, and the library is about to close. “No, it's all right.” I said as I put my belongings into my bag. We walk out the door without saying anything before we get to the entrance. The environment is also shady, not because it is raining, but because the sun has nearly set. “I’ll go ahead, Lorie.” “Uh—” Daphne is about to leave when I stop her. “Change direction. Don't take a shortcut and never go to the green tea corner.” Her lips slightly parted and she gave me a wondering look. “How did you know—” “Uhm... Their green tea is sold out.” “Huh?” “Uh, my friend texted me. And I guess everyone loves the green tea corner, so I warn you not to go to the green tea corner since it's sold out.” “I don't understand how did you know—” “Just.. just please don't go there!” I said and turned around, I kept walking without looking back even though she called my name. I quickly run when I get away from her. I feel the tightness of my chest because I run earlier. I had to stop and lean against the red brick wall. As I did that, I saw a familiar red car coming from my direction. He glanced at the rear-view mirror. Ashton's warm tone is still the same. He is wearing his formal suit, but his hair became even whiter. I ran into him and he offered to drive me home. “How are you Lorie?” It's been a while since someone one address me like that. I feel odd. “I’m fine.” I said without looking at him. My eyes focus on the window. Trying to feel the cold air touching my skin. “It’s been a long time Lorie, you grow up so fast.” “Yeah. But how did you know what time I was going home? It surprises me, Sir.” “Ah, I guess good timing.” “Oh.” “Do you want me to drive you home?” “No. I'm fine.” I hesitate. “Sorry, just take me to my condo.” He silently follows my order. When we arrived, he dropped me off in front of my gate. “Miss Lorie, just call me if you need anything, okay?” I accepted his card when he offered it to me “Oh come one, Sir. Don't call me Miss.” “Yes, Miss Lorie.” I took a deep breath. As if I can stop him. “Okay, have a safe trip, Sir.” I said goodbye. “Your father missed you so much, Miss Lorie.” My face became more blank when I heard the word 'Dad'. “I’m going.” I said before I turned around. “See you, Miss Lorie.” When I arrived at my condo. I drop my backpack onto the couch with haste. One year of being alone, one year of being this way, one year of surviving my non-emotional life. When Mom died, I was off, and I didn't even see Dad cry when she died. Dad owns a company, so he is financially secure. He bought my condo and took care of my taxes, education, and food, among other things. By the way, it's his responsibility. Dad never came to see me when I was here. I know it's impossible, but I'm hoping anyway. I'm hoping I still have family in here.
