Spring had arrived at last after a heavy winter of ice, snow, and mist. The spidery, black, twisted branches of the trees in the street had begun to sprout bright buds, the grass was green and growing rapidly, and the blue skies were patched with great white clouds that were perfectly still. Looking out of the window at the signs of growth and newness all around, Joanne smiled; even the red Beetle parked outside looked bright and clean. It was moving day and things were going very slowly but Joanne didn’t mind. She was not impatient, content only that they were leaving the big house at last and moving into one that could truly be described as hers and Henry’s.
