Darkness....All around me was darkness and nothing but darkness. I could see nothing, feel nothing, and hear nothing but the pounding of my own beating heart. Where am I? What am I doing here? Those questions swirled around in my mind repeatedly. I was at a loss; I could not remember anything let alone answer the questions that continued to fill my head.
"Evina..." a soft but gruff whisper echoed through the darkness. My head jerked in the direction of the whisper only to see piercing blue eyes staring directly at me. Those eyes, they made me feel as if they were the anchors holding me to this world, whatever world we were in. I could only see eyes but I knew in my heart that it was a man who had whispered my name so softly through the darkness.
"Who are you?" I quietly asked in the darkness that surrounded both of us. Fear crept through my body as I waited for a response, but nothing was said. He had whispered my name so softly but who was this man? Had I met him before? Was he someone from my past that I needed to remember? No, that was not it; I would have remembered those eyes if I had seen him before. Those eyes... I wanted to see his eyes, I wanted to see his face, to touch his skin, to trail my fingers across his jawline and down his neck. My body ached for this person, for the touch from him, for my name to roll of his tongue as if he had said my name a thousand times. I wanted to move, I needed to move, but I was frozen in place, not breaking my gaze with the pair of eyes in front of me.
"Come here..." I whispered. He slowly began to move towards me until he came to a stop just a few feet in front of me. My breathing hitched, oh my goodness his eyes were beautiful. I could not tear my eyes away from his gaze. There were many emotions swirling around in his eyes; I could see fear, and loneliness but something soft like...love? I shook my head. I was going crazy; I knew I had to be and yet it did not bother me that I was falling for a pair of eyes that I had absolutely no clue who they belonged to. I tried once again to reach out to him but a loud crash had startled us both and that is when he disappeared and I came flying out of my bed.
I groaned, that was the same dream I had been having for the past 3 years. I could never remember anything afterwards but the piercing blue eyes that felt as if they had penetrated my soul. Another loud crash echoed throughout my room, startling me once again. I looked to my window only to notice that the winds from the storm had opened my window and was causing the loud crashing sound. I slid out of bed with a grunt and walked over to the window to latch them more tightly this time and turned back to look at the clock. It was 5 in the morning and after two startling noises, I knew I would not be able to go back to sleep so I threw on some sweats and headed downstairs to the kitchen.
First thing I did was saunter over to the coffee maker and make me some fresh coffee. I grabbed my favorite cup, grabbed some vanilla creamer, and put them by the coffee as I attempted to patiently wait for my coffee to finish brewing. I leaned against the counter and stared out the large window in the living room. It was dark outside but I could see the rain glistening on the window as it continued to fall. I sauntered over to the couch and flopped onto one of the cushions as I listened to the rain beat against the window. What should have been a soothing sound, was a sound that filled my soul with loneliness and memories that crept up through my mind. It had been 3 years since that dreadful, rainy night. My parents had left the cottage to go hunting together, since we lived in the outskirts of the Blood Moon pack, when they were attacked by vampires. They had only been gone what seemed like a few minutes when a blood curdling scream pierced the air of the night. It had sounded oddly familiar so I remember running to the door, ripping it open, only to find the most haunting scene before me. My parent’s lifeless bodies lay on the ground in a pool of their own blood as two vampires towered over their bodies. I could hear the vampires laughing and something in me snapped. I had just barely turned 18 but I had not had my first shift yet, and when I heard the vampires laugh echo through the air, I began to shake. I was angry, devastated and in pain and those emotions must have triggered my wolf to come through because the next thing I knew, I was running towards the vampires, shifting as I went. I could hear my bones breaking and rearranging themselves as my wolf, Midnight, had come forward to take revenge.
I do not remember much after that; I think Midnight had pushed me to the back of her mind that night so that I would not see what damage had been done. Every time I tried to question her about it though, she always changed the topic. It was only a few nights after that incident that I began to see those eyes in my dream almost nightly. The dream never changed, night after night, I was always met with darkness and the piercing gaze of the man with the two ice blue eyes. I struggled with my parent’s death, not only from seeing what had happened, but because I was now all alone. I had no other family; my parents had only had me due to complications from when my mother gave birth to me and could no longer have any more children. I changed after that; I went from being a shy, bubbly girl who had loved to meet people and chat with everyone else in the pack to a girl that completely isolated herself from the pack and the rest of the world. Here and there I would speak to the alpha and the beta of the pack but everyone knew that I would never be that same girl again.
A quiet beeping from the coffee maker brought me out of my own thoughts as I stood up and walked back to the kitchen to fix me a cup of coffee. As I was about to take my first sip, a quiet knock on the door interrupted me. Sighing, I set my cup down and waltzed over to the door, opening it slowly. "Morning Evina." Outside my door stood Beta Cole of the Blood Moon pack. I smiled, “Morning Beta, it has been a while. What can I do for you?" He shifted from side to side and looked quite nervous, this usually was not a good sign. “I’m sorry Evina, but Alpha Richard has requested that you go to his office at some point today and speak with him.” Oh no, this could not be a good thing. “I will be up at his office in about a half hour. I’m just going to finish my coffee, get ready and then I will make my way over to the pack house.” He nodded and turned on his heels to leave and walk down the path back to the pack house. Beta Cole was a genuinely nice guy and so was Alpha Richard, I had a lot of respect for the both and they were both kind to me when the incident happened with my parents. I shut the door and made my way over to the kitchen to finish my now lukewarm coffee, and sighed. I was very curious and nervous about what Alpha Richards needed to talk to me about but I guess I would find out soon enough. I told Beta Cole that I would be to the pack house sooner rather than later so I better get moving. I chugged my coffee down and bounced up the stairs and made my way into my bathroom. I turned the hot water on in the shower and let it run as I gathered my clothes to change into afterwards. I paused to take a glance at myself in the mirror, I had changed quite a bit since that incident, and not just mentally but physically as well. I had decided that I needed a change 3 years ago to rid myself of the past me and become a new me. I had become obsessed with having my ear pierced, there was something about the twinge of pain that became like an addiction. I had also pierced my nose too, filled out a little more in my curves and I had my long hair cut off. I was now rocking a pixie cut, which I enjoyed thoroughly.
I took a longer shower than I should have but the hot water melted everything away, even if only for a few minutes. I quickly dried my hair, threw on a pair of skinny jeans with an oversized hoodie and my favorite pair of ankle boots since it was fall and the air was cool outside. I put on a small amount of makeup, made my way downstairs and headed out the door. The cool autumn breeze brushed against my cheeks and the smell of leaves and pine made me relax a little. It had been too long since I took the opportunity to be outside and enjoy nature. My wolf agreed with me and purred as she enjoyed this time outside as much as I was. I made my way over to the pack house in a decent amount of time, earning a lot of stares from other pack members along the way. I know I looked different than most female werewolves, not only did I have a crap ton of piercings and super short hair, my hair color was unique amongst my pack. I had been born with silver colored hair, which was extremely uncommon amongst werewolves, but I enjoyed being different from others.
Finally, I arrived at the pack house and walked through the main doors and into the lobby area. There were pack members everywhere, bustling here and there without paying much attention to me. I made my way up the stairs and down the hall to Alpha Richard’s office with no problem and no real issue with drawing too much attention to myself. I arrived at his office and knocked on the door softly just in case he had other visitors by chance. “Come in, Evina.” I turned the door knob and slowly made my way into his office and sat in the chair in front of his desk. I waited patiently as he seemed to be finishing some work on his computer and then turned his attention to me. “How are you?” He asked me, I could see the concern in his eyes. “I’m doing better each day. It has been over three years since my parents died, and I miss them horribly. But I know they wouldn’t want me sulking over their deaths any longer than what I already have.” He nodded his head; I could see that he was troubled by something but I did not know what. “Evina...” He trailed off, I did not like where this was headed and I am not sure if I really wanted to find out or not. I waited anxiously for him to continue; a million different thoughts were whirling around in my head. “The Hallows Eve ball is tomorrow night and all unmated werewolves are required to go, which means you. There are only a few here that have not found their mates yet, the others are still too young to go to the ball but you are not.” The ball was held on Hallows Eve every year for unmated werewolves to find their mates but it was also a fun celebration of Halloween for us since humans still believed that we were just mythical creatures. "I had forgotten that the ball was tomorrow night, I don’t really have anything to wear or a mode of transportation to get me to the ball...” because obviously shifting was not going to be the most ideal way of getting me there, but I did not say that aloud. “Do not worry, I have already arranged for a driver to take you to the ball as purchasing a gown that my wife thought would fit you well.” He stood from his desk and walked over to the closet and pulled out a silver and black gown that was absolutely to die for. “Take this and make sure that you are ready by 6 sharp tomorrow night. My driver will be there to come pick you at your place, make sure you are ready on time.” He handed me the dress and dismissed me from his office. As I was about to leave, I turned to say thank you for what he and the Luna had done. He nodded and continued about his work on his computer.
I cradled the dress close to me as I walked out of the pack house and towards my home on the outskirts of town. The crisp autumn air was refreshing as the wind danced around with the leaves. I hurried back to my cottage and hung up the dress in my closet before crashing down onto my bed. It was still evening time but for whatever reason I felt that the energy had been completely drained from me. I stared up at my ceiling, thinking about the possibility of finding my mate tomorrow night. When I was younger, I could not wait to find my mate. It was something that I would constantly day dream about but I knew that if I wanted to find my mate, it would have to be someone from another pack. I was considered a freak, not only was I born with silver hair but I was also born with two different colored eyes, one blue and one silver. Day by day as a child I began to lose hope of that from ever happening and three years ago I had lost all faith of ever finding my mate. I could love myself and the way I looked but I never thought any male would ever want a freak like me. I closed my eyes, awaiting the pair of blue eyes that would soon greet me in my dreams.
