Chapter 15: The Trail Goes Cold

356 Words
The trackers moved silently through the dense forest, their eyes scanning every shadow, every branch, every whisper of movement. Darius’s orders were clear: find the hybrid, the wolf they had raised as their own. But three days had passed, and every lead ended in frustration. “She can’t just vanish,” one tracker muttered, frustration evident in his growl. “We’ve checked every road, every river… nothing.” Ronan’s eyes flicked toward him. “She’s smart. Faster than any wolf we’ve trained. And if she has help… we’ll never catch her.” Darius’s voice cut through the tension, low and dangerous. “Then widen the search. Set patrols, intercept roads, question every nearby pack. She cannot escape the Silverfang Pack forever.” Hours stretched into days. The trackers followed faint trails—broken branches, distant paw prints—but each led to nothing. She had vanished completely, leaving no trace. Meanwhile, far from the forest, Elara was safe in the Ironclaw Pack’s territory. She trained, sparred, and learned the ways of her new home, unaware that her former pack searched desperately for her. Darius stared at the maps spread across the table in the Silverfang fortress. Amber eyes narrowed. “The car… she must have used a vehicle. That explains the sudden disappearance. Trackers can’t follow that. She is clever… far too clever for her own good.” Ronan nodded grimly. “What now, Alpha?” Darius’s jaw tightened. “We wait. Watch. She is out there, but we will not give up. When the time comes, the Silverfang Pack will reclaim what is ours. And she will understand why she was never meant to leave.” The trackers continued their search, frustration mounting, but the trail remained cold. The hybrid they had raised—their secret, their weapon—was beyond their reach. For now. And somewhere in the moonlit forests, Elara laughed softly as she shifted into wolf form, leaping through the Ironclaw training grounds. Freedom. Strength. Trust. Her past could not touch her here. Yet, the shadow of the Silverfang Pack lingered, a distant threat waiting for the day she might be found.
